I believe Callahan was 23 when he became a regular and Dubinsky was 22. I stated that if Kreider isnt a regular before 24, I expect him to not make it as a Ranger. You then express amazement at my statement while citing examples that support my stance.

Try again wirh some other examples that better suit your amazement.

Again, if at this point you are not disappointed by Kreider, it seems odd.

He still has this year to establish himself, but if he doesn't I would bet against him.

PA Parenteau, Matt Moulson, Alex Burrows, Matt Read, any player that comes into the league after spending 4 years in the NCAA?

I am in amazement that I have to argue with your statement that "22 is not that young" in today's NHL.

Sorry disagree

keeping Richards this year didn't prevent them from doing anything they wanted to do, so it really had no effect. Richards is better than any other 3c/2c we have until Brass puts together a full year. they're going all in one more yearc with him

The Rangers could have (and should have) been in on Bobby Ryan if they had the money freed up from Richards. Even if they did not do that they still would have had flexibiilty on signing Stepan and Henrik and not have had to watch his useless play anymore. Worst decision not buying out Richards!

If it weren't for the rule that Richards can't be bought out if he's injured people would be claiming this was a great decision. Nothing is set. Not Brassard, not Stepan, not Miller, not Lindberg. It's just classic HFNYR overrating our youngsters and trashing the mercs.

And that's the rub. As long as he doesn't get injured we're fine and you can argue it was the right thing to bring him back based on what we have and what was available. But if he gets injured...well that's an absolute disaster that will set us back big time.

I disagree. Ryan is not the type of player they needed to be looking at. There were plenty of UFA's that went for below market value. Grabovski is one who I think is at least on par with Richards at this point in their careers.

I would have loved to use the money to trade for a player whose team was in a bit of a pinch like Kyle Clifford from LA.

Ryan cost assets. Richards costs only cap space. Just recently we were complaining about depth, we'd be back where we started if we dealt a couple young players and a first rounder for him, no?

There is an interview with Torts on TSN where he addresses that he, Torts, damaged his relationship with Richards. There was something behind the scenes that had to be very serious, you could see it in Torts reaction. My guess is, Torts took his lack of people skills to a whole new level and hurled it out on Richards... and made a story out of it.

Torts did not step back from his statements, very telling ones, regarding how he can be on players, and people. So perhaps all that lead to Richards' mulligan.

That's really what I'm asking. I would to know what they think Richards numbers are going to look like.

To Richards, screw excuses.

If he wasn't in top condition I can understand why Torts would have been pissed at him. Richards did not play with a whole lot of energy last year and in the playoffs he was horrible.

I think the Rangers expected him to work well with Nash. That didn't work out well at all. Those two didn't look very good together in preseason either.

Exactly. That's why I would love to know what Slats, Gorton and AV are expecting from him.

Sounds familiar

Bryan Murray told Zibanejad to go down to Binghamton and raise his intensity level and get more involved physically and mentally

Murray thinks Zibanejad didn't do enough to fight for his spot. Watched as Pageau and Da Costa out worked him in camp

Murray said he told Zibanejad "he let two guys come in and take his job.

I think it became Sathers reclamation project 2013. Lots of $$ tied up in Brad and it is another in a Looooong list of UFA signing failures by Slats and Company.

I can maybe buy that they didn't think there was a better replacement on the market but it is a huge gamble. It really smells of an ego decision. The reports that not everyone was onboard with buying out Richards has Sather written all over it. The front office track record with UFA is terrible, makes you wonder who does the talent evals for the team.

Yup. I would've wanted no part with a "traditional" UFA replacement for Richards with a 5-year $4-5M/year contract, say a Weiss or Filppula. But if I knew Grabovski could be signed to a 1-year deal I would've sent Richards packing faster than one can blink.

I've been defending Kreider for a while now. Truth be told, he did not do enough to warrant being kept with the big club.

While alot of what goes into the decisions with regards to cuts is actual game play, there's alot of what the Coaches see during practice that also weigh heaivly on the choices.

JT Miller gets limited time in actual game play and makes the team. Scoring twice I'm sure helped, but I'm sure that alot of the decision to keep both him and Fast (RH shot and a winger) is how they handled themselves in practice.

I'm not down on the kid because once he wakes up, if he ever wakes up, the package is there to be a very VERY dangerous player.

My advice is to take the demotion to heart. Go down with a chip on your shoulder and take it out on opposing defencemen.

Get in on the forecheck, use that truck like body, run guys down and over. Be a disruptive PITA on the forecheck/backcheck and learn to find the open areas of the ice to get your shot off.

Be a somewhat selfish player. If you think you have the shot. Take it. don't look for the pass. That's not what's going to get you back to the NHL. You have a nice shot, use it.

I am a big Kreider guy but he didn't do enough to make the team. However, its not like the other guys actually stood out in training camp but they are on the team because of their contracts. Kreider needs to go down to the AHL and continue his play from last winter. He will get his opportunity. Look at the Rangers roster. JT Miller should on the 3rd line in the middle. Not on the 4th line playing the wing. Its funny that the Rangers 3rd line has Boyle in the middle and Pyatt on the wing. That worked so well in the lockout year. That's on Rangers management. The Rangers started out with Kreider-Boyle-Pyatt on their 3rd line. Poor Fast. It took Max Pacioretty 3 years to figure it out. Most of the players sent down will get their opportunities in New York. The Rangers roster has too many holes. Its the same roster as last season. They added a couple of depth players. They will still have trouble generating enough offense. 2nd round exit again.

There are few questions that need answers before we know how far they will go in the playoffs.
1 - How will the PP perform.
2 - Will Richards suck again.
3 - How much scoring will the bottom 6 provide.

People are really overreacting on Kreider. He won't be with the team next season? He's done developing after a little more than one pro season? Give me a break with the hyperbole.

Goes along with the he's not gonna sign here because he was at a Bruins game

I will give you a good reason. 22 in todays' s NHL is no longer all that young. Without looking, I would guess that there are more than 50 players in the NHL younger than Kreider.

If he is not permanently on the roster at some point this year I would bet he is gone from this team. We are talking about a player whose name has been tossed around as as a possible ROY. Anyone who is not disappointed in him at this point is not thinking clearly.

He has only this season to live up to the hype in order to remain a Ranger. Hopefully he does that and emerges. The door is starting to close.

How many of the 50 completed college? Different ballgame when it comes to college kids.

Kreider's problem is his personality. He's too reserved, and doesn't seem interested in really going 100%, balls to the wall every shift.

JT Miller on the other hand, you can see it in interviews, his cockyness, his ability to go hard and give 100%. These are all intangibles that you either have or you don't. Hopefully Kreider learns this soon.

I am not ready to give up on him, but its the right decision to send him down. He needs to know he isn't going to be here because of his name or his one decent run in the playoffs a couple years ago.

Very good observation which is right on point.

It absolutely sounds like the same exact situation with Kreider. Z and Kreider are both players with a lot to offer coupled with high expectations. They both let players show up in camp more ready than they were. And again I am a huge Kreider fan, as big as they come, but I'd like to see how he responds in CT.

On a side note, as I have stated before, I went to Merrimack and was an athlete there while Da Costa was there. I am glad to see he worked his way back onto the NHL roster for Ottawa. He has the skills to play at the NHL level.

I'd offer up our 1st round pick right now for Zibanejad. I have a hunch he'll be back in Ottawa by December though.

No thanks, would rather not move two first round picks in a row. Would like the Rangers to keep all of their higher picks this year. Ottawa wouldn't do that, anyway.

As would I. If Ottawa for some reason was looking to trade him and came to us with that offer, you have to do it. We won't get a better player or prospect in the 15-25 overall range. But again, he'll be in Ottawa by December again, it's a pipe dream.
