Define people.

People [pee-pull] noun: A species convinced it is highest on the food chain while walking behind dogs on a rope and picking up dog's poo. This often occurs before dog relaxes all day while people go to work to support dog.

So, would it be insane to think that Skjei's ceiling would be something like McD prior to this year? Great wheels, good smarts, solid defense.

No. That was the comparison everyone used when he was drafted.

Skjei showed more offense this past year than people thought he had as well.

A little late to the conversation, but thank you Leslie for the input and the great analysis as always. A few questions for you....

- How has Fogarty looked in camp? Haven't heard anything on him so far.

- Which 2014 pick impresses you the most as of right now? Which doesn't impress?

- The strides that Duclair/Buchnevich have taken this past year really excite me as a fan, what else can you say about their potential?

- Why is Shesterkin not at camp? I'd assume he's not because of short notice.

- Has there been any of the invites that have impressed as well? Any that are worth that annual Jean/Donnay signing out of camp? Lettieri seems to be the one IMO.

Very interested to hear what you have to say and thanks again for the information. LGR!!!

Awesome to hear about Halverson. About what I expected to hear, too. Kid has insane potential.

I know almost nothing when it comes to the juniors and prospects, but when I hear that a big goalie has plus lateral movement I'm gonna start paying attention. To me that's the biggest thing for bigger goalies. Add in his puck-handling skills and overall potential, count me in as pulling for this kid.

Looking forward to Halverson playing in the future. Seems like he has a lot of upside.

Really can't wait for Skjei to make the jump into the NHL. He is going to be so dynamic.

I have only seen one of the three scrimmages--there was none today.

1. Fogarty has good size and I liked his face off work. I could tell you more after tomorrow.

2. The most impressive 2014 pick has been Halverson.

3. As has been mentioned by posters above, Buchnevich has the highest offensive upside in the organization. Dare i say that in some ways he reminds me of Gaborik. A pure goal scorer, who is an excellent skater. As for Duclair, he also has excellent wheels, but not the offensive upside. On the other hand, Duclair is more of a team guy--uses his linemates very well. Buchnevich is more boom or bust.

4. Shesterkin (or however we should be spelling his name) is in Russia and will not be coming over until next summer. The Rangers had considered buying out his KHL contract, but he wants to fulfill it. He is expected next summer.

5. Frankly none of the FAs really impressed me yesterday. I will keep an eye out tomorrow though.

Remember Grachev, remember Grachev...

Grachev was a man amongst boys in Junior, playing with Hodgson and Duchene.

He was like a bull in a china shop in Brampton. But when he got to the AHL he couldn't do the same things against grown men. And the Rangers wanted him to grow his defensive game. And the rest is history.

Buchnevich, from what I understand, is smaller, is already logging a good amount of minutes against professionals.

But, i agree, we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves. I'd like to see him in Hartford. But it looks like we will have to wait at least a year for that.

I never read those comments when he was still as fresh as Buch is now. We will always love our flashy Russian prospects, but I beg of you, let's not hype this guy like he's the second coming now. Just like Grachev got treated. And don't say he didn't, because you all know he did.

All of the scouts were hyping Grachev as well. He was top 25 on THN's future watch for 2 years. Guys get picked top 5 in the draft and don't pan out. At some point, someone believed that those players could be good or even great NHLers.

There's nothing wrong with getting excited about a player who has really high potential.

Well, obviously, but we here at New York Rangers hfboards tend to go a bit overboard when it comes to these types of prospects. Especially when they have great names and are hidden gems in the later rounds.

True, but by the same token, I think we've learned from mistakes like that (at least I have) to a) temper expectations and b) to look for possible data points to substantiate the upside.

So, in Buch's case, the fact that he performed against men and on the WJC stage against top competition provides some comfort. (Consider this fact: Last year, as an 18 year old Buch scored one more point than the 23/24-year old Grachev did in the same league - in ten less games.) I feel justified in being excited about him.

Even so, I'm still not counting my chickens (which I admittedly did with Grachev), I'm just hopeful.

And that's all I am asking for. That people hold their horses just a little bit. Because tendencies are starting to point towards the opposite direction, if you know what I mean? Grachev hype got bigger and bigger with each camp and quotes got juicier and juicier. Just like we are getting now, with Buch - Semin comparisons and whatnot.

I hope he becomes great, of course.

lets talk ev grachev.

he was a prototypical power forward. big guy. showed a deadly shot when he played for brampton. good scorer who went up and down the wing and scored alot.

problem is..... he wasnt a power forward. he was a big finesse guy and that didnt work at all. he never could find an identity. he also never really figured out the game as a pro.

he played with some studs on his line in juniors and and never really got it once he signed.

buchnevich is a different player. i wouldnt say hes gaborik per say but he does have the high end finish that gaby had when he had good shoulders.

although there was some disagreement on his skating in his draft year, i can tell you he has high end speed and hes faster with the puck on his stick. hes flashy, elusive, intuitive and creative.

his wrist shot is wicked. velocity and lift means he can rip corners. hes has an impressive snipe.

one more thing, hes a willing board guy and will go to the net. hes no softy. his back check isnt his strength but his speed allows him to steal plenty of pucks. he will go get the puck in dirty areas and take it to the front with gusto.

hes got all the attributes that one would want if they were going to fill a top line scorer offwing spot.

we all want to look to a current or past player to compare him to and none are perfect or completely accurate, but i see alot of this guy in him.

Tempering expectations is hard to do but a safer way to live.

I remember seeing an open preseason practice with Lundmark, Brendl, Malhorta, Todd Harvey....I was thinking we had the makings of a dynasty....we all know how that turned out.

Nevertheless, the simple fact that Buch is here is a great sign.

We really only need 3-4 players to pan out from this group to add to the already youthful- long-term core.

Not having a 1st next year is brutal though...

If a d man forces his way on, trade Moore or Klein + and get it back. Not impossible by any means.

Based on what? Sure, the return would be far greater for Staal...but odds are Moore never becomes half the player Staal is.

No, but I think they believe Skeji will. He is the future #2 LD, IMO.

Staal can return something valuable like a center.
