Nash's slump is obviously horrendous - not in how long it's been going on for but in how far away he looks from making any positive plays out there - but at the same time, the line that has been flying is the Miller line, which is a young player, a rookie and one of the flakiest players in the NHL. I can see why AV has been treading lightly with an upheaval of the way our forwards' minutes are distributed even if it's hard to watch a procession of terrible Rick Nash lines waffle around forever.

This coach is so bad he is challenging Low! The guy has got to be looking for a 5 year paid vacation. Dolan is a disgrace.

Yeah, AV needs to stop giving up bad goals. Our best players stopped playing well and our goaltending has been shaky. AV is no angel but comparing him to Low after half a season when his players are playing like crap is ridiculous.

Just let me say this. If the Rangers called up a rookie and he made that lazy turnover and even lazier penalty in the first period, which led to a pp goal. . Do you think the kid would see the ice the rest of the game?????? This is our superstar.

was nash even in the line up tonight?

I'm not joking, i dont remeber him doing ANYTHING.

I am officially on the "nash sucks" band wagon now. hes a complete waste of a roster spot at this point.

I remember him playing. He lost every single battle in the corners for a puck, made bad passes, etc.

Nash right now is a detriment to his line.

Is hey anything can happen seriously the only promessier argument? You cant even say what he would demand/expect from his players because no one has ever seen him behind the bench. This egomaniac has had his post nhl life handed to him by our inept franchise and thanked us by storming away like a child when he wasnt handed a job he was completely unqualified for. And now you want to make this guy head coach? Really?

This is pretty funny and basically summarizes the effort we put into finding a new coach

The first goal went in off Step's stick
the second goal is on McDonough
The third goal probably should have been stopped.

Girardi needs to hit the net instead of the post and it's game over.

Nash is terrible, not even average. Maybe on a Pyatt level of play. How many people would trade him back to CBJ for Dubi and Arty? I would in a heartbeat, at least they show up to play. Nash is invisible except when he is turning over the puck.

I would play Hank next. Tell both goaltenders they play until they loose a game and then the other guy goes in until he loses a game. If Hank wants to stay off the bench, maybe he puts some games together.

The second, third and fourth lines are all playing better then the first line.

The announcers said we were going with 4 defense-men late in the game, was Moore benched? Or were they wrong? Falk has been improving a little bit every game.

.
I'm really starting to get worried about the defense. Girardi and McDonagh are going to have to play 30 MPG every night with Staal and Stralman out if the Rangers are going to have any chance of winning games. You can't put DelZaster and Moore out there against good offensive lines and expect them to hold up for 20 MPG. They just can't do it. The Rangers have two defenseman right now, a star goalie playing like **** and a underachieving offense. How is this team supposed to win games? I just don't understand it.

Del Zotto has played 20+ minutes a night (and quite often more)on a regular basis before this season. As long as he plays mostly on the left side, he'll be fine.

Messier= 6 cups AV=0 hmmm yes those presidents trophies mean sooooooo much

That's excellent logic. You know who else won a bunch of cups way back when, and actually has coaching experience winning all those cups? Our Pejorative Slured GM. Sather won a bunch of cups about the same time Mess won most of his, and Slats actually has a ton of coaching experience. Would you want Sather coaching this team?

Winning cups 300 years ago has no bearing on today's game. See Edmonton, who sucks ass and whose management personnel have a barrage of cups. The fact that Messier is not willing to pay his dues and learn the trade makes me not want him anywhere near coaching this team.

Gotta love PGT logic. The solution to a team filled with entitled players who don't want to put in the work to maximize their potential...is to bring in a coach (Messier) who feels entitled and doesn't want to put in his time to really learn how to be a coach. Price---less. If Messier were serious about being an NHL coach, he would be in the AHL or the CHL somewhere...you know...coaching. For the first time. I love the dude for 94, but he seems to have bought into the "best leader ever" narrative that was set up around him. Standing behind a bench so that a team can bask in his 94-ness is not a winning strategy, and I'm saying this as someone who doesn't even particularly like AV that much.

I just have to say, I don't get why some posters here hate Girardi and want him gone. Everyone says he doesn't fit AV's system, and maybe that's true in theory because he's slow of foot and a shot blocking guy, but I think he is constantly flip flopping with McD for best defenseman every game. He's making smart reads to jump into the play (not flying in when nobody is back like Moore) and he's solid as all hell in our own zone.

I understand wanting to make trades and acquire assets, but if it were me, as long as his contract demands aren't too high I'd re-sign Girardi. He's a heart and soul guy, he's definitely important in the locker room and he's a solid, solid defenseman.

Great job, team.

Some of the blame falls on the coaches. Everyone knows the dog's been playing LW his entire career, so of course AV puts him at center between two clowns.

Honestly, what's most frustrating to me is that none of the players have played well at the same time. When Kreider and Richards were hot, other guys were down. Now Pouliot and Zucc are tearing it up, while Stepan and Nash have become invisible. If this team could just get it together all at once and play well as a team, they're not that bad.

I really don't think Messier is the answer. Also, I'm not totally against taking the rest of the year off and getting some picks/prospects in a minor rebuild (because even if Sather makes a couple big trades, I doubt it's going further than the second round). Maybe I've just become apathetic to this team, maybe I've realized this isn't the way to win a cup, but I wouldn't be against them getting some picks for 2014 and 2015 and having a couple of years with "learning experiences."

Every game, for the past month, I've said:

"That has to be Rick Nash's worst game as a Ranger".

I just keep having to say it. He out does himself every, single, time.

Now show the caps coach..you know the one that just beat us

Oates has at least three years, as an assistant coach in tampa and jersey, and got to learn the job.
Messier - Five games of coaching Canada at the Sprengler Cup, against Genève-Servette, Davos and Sparta Praha.

Let him coach The Wolf Pack first for a few years to see if he got what it takes. Or a CHL or a NCAA team? At the least he should be an assistant in The NHL, if he wan't go to the minors or youth hockey to learn and prove himself.

Never pointed to a singular goal and said "THIS is the reason he has been in the AHL his entire career." You don't get left in the AHL/ECHL until you're 26 if you're a starting NHL goalie. Like I said, he's proved to be a solid backup so far this season, but that's pretty much where the discussion ends for the time being. Talbot had 1 winning season in the AHL and that was 3 years ago now. Don't mind him, don't want him as the starter.

We have a starter, for 8 more years.

A few things:

1. We were the better team. But that we loose like we did last night is hardly even surprising, its basically typical for a team like us -- and -- there are plenty of teams exactly like us in the NHL and around in the hockey world.

Most people here knows the game from following this team a season or two and playing EA Sports. You know, this is hockey. Get used to it. This is exactly how games have ended all year for us, for Washington, for Philly, for NJD and so forth.

Why Ola do we look like this though? Is it because Nash should play on a 4th line in the AHL? Stepan is the worst center in the NHL? Girardi can't pass the puck? Zucc is smaller than small? Talbot was drunk? AV is the worst coach ever? No.

You need to be very confident in what you do and consistent to reap points during a regular season in the NHL. Teams like us, NJD, Philly, Washington and co, has inbuilt flaws. Our flaw has been goaltending and the defense's transition game. Hence, even if we do the "right" things, we have not been consistent. We have time and time again done the right things, but "not" won. That rubs the confidence of the team, and we end up in a rut. A rut that is not easy to get out of unless you fix those underlying problems.

2. Lets discuss Rick Nash. Due to so few in media, around the teams, and in the stands (exemplified at this place for sure lol) having a clue of what they are talking about and basically knowing nothing about the game, there is a big risk with this situation. More worrying than Staal's concussion problems and what not.

This is what you get from most scorers in hockey. Nash draws a lot of attention. He open up space around him. He can score a goal by himself and take advantage of D's. OTOH, he is playing on a line that is not clicking. Nobody on that line is helping any of its other members. Kreider is not getting the puck to Nash. Nash is not getting the puck to Stepan. Stepan is not getting the puck to Kreider or Nash. He is playing on a struggling team. He is coming of a concussion. Ohhh, he is struggling on the ice. iiiiahhahhhhaha alllllwwaaaaayyyysss in nynyynyynny iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

What did all you whiners expect???? Jesus H Christ. Were you born yesterday? Of course he is struggling.

Live with it, and he will be a difference maker at times and indifferent at times. That's what you get from players like him.

Start to F'ing boo him every single time he gets the puck and what not, and we could end up with yet another [insert name]-type of situation in NY.

3. I am also extremely fed up with the complaints on Cam Talbot. He is doing a freaking awesome job. If I was in the stands at MSG and heard someone boo him I promise that I would start swining. WTF? You want him to have the first goal, the third goal. But you know, that are exactly the type of goals we are scoring at the other type of the rink too. John Moore let Fehr rip one despite being in a 2 on 2 situation. On the other side of the rink our shooters get a stick in the way in those type of situations.

4. For all the tremendous amount of complaining and *****ing going on, -- a lot of good things are also happening right now. You do not want to ruin those things.

-JT Miller is playing freaking awesome hockey. At center ice. I love this kid. They are a bit of different players, but I think he is looking basically as good as Stepan did somewhat at the same age. Unless we manage to screw him up with classic NY pro-team self destructive behavior, we got another very strong top 6-9 homegrown core player on our hands in him.

-I know many think Chris Kreider with his 3+2 in his last 12 games is some kind of second coming of Jesus, but while he isn't quite that we should be glad the he is finding his role in the NHL. I think he is doing a great job at finding ways to get involved in the play that he couldn't last season. But his line with Stepan and Nash is not finding ways help each other, either they are given a lot of time and find ways to get through or an adjustment must be made.

-Brad Richards is playing really good hockey right now, at least for a player as capable as him. This is also important. The cap is going up, nobody will be available. People want to see a wreck on the ice, just wait and see how the players would look that we pick up this summer. Wait till you pay someone like David Clarkson 5.5m per for 5 years.

-Ryan McDonagh is on fast pace to become a tremendously special D in this league. Scott Neidermayer made the same journey in NJ.

-We are full of holes and they cost us in terms of pts, but given that we are half way into the first season with a coach that is taking us in the completely different direction than the old coach, everyone can already see -- not the results -- but what result we would get if we didn't screw up. For the first time in 4-5 years we are taking the play to the other team. Carrying the momentum. Not just rolling over and let people fire away against us and hoping for our goalie to save us. Its been the opposite.

I am not saying that AV is the man. That Ulf is the man. They gotta get it done too. There are many aspects to coaching. But I do not doubt the direction change we have made. This is how Boston is playing. This is how STL is playing. This is how all the good teams are playing, we gotta start building in that direction.

Brad Richards. His contract ends in 2020. He will be 34 in the spring. Why does it matter if the cap is going up? Why have a bad contract on the books because the cap is going up and there are no players in free agency? The team won't be better with him next season. He has 9 goals in 39 games. Talk about lowering the standards. Amnesty buyout. Nice and clean. You're going to have him on the roster until 20 if he doesn't retire. Two small centers with Stepan or another small winger in the top six. Which will it be? Is Brassard on the team too? Then it will be the fault of the coach....again. Don't start with hoping Richards suffers a career ending injury so he can be put on long term IR. The Rangers aren't a Cup now or in the near future.

Agree totally. Richards needs to go. On the fence about Cally but if he is not signed before the deadline I think maybe he should be dealt. Sad to say injuries are really taking a hard toll in Cally now. Is he the next Chris Drury if we resign him? Nobody knows... One can make a good case that signing Brassard to his QO is quite the risk. Would love to get Berglund in a one on one swap but not sure the Blues would be interested. I think we should keep Girardi unless we find a way ( highly implausible) to strengthen the RD. How much will he cost? Good question. Staal is damaged goods. Hard to see us getting a reasonable return there. Nash needs to step up his play considerably too. I would entertain trading him to Detroit for Franzen, Tatar:Nyquist, prospect and pick. But that is pure fantasy though. HAnk needs to elevate his game considerably. Otherwise yikes
