Post-Game Talk: Rangers @ Caps Game 5: see you on sunday

The worst game I've seen by Girardi. The team had 12 give aways, Girardi had 6. Rangers did not deserve to win this game, but got real close.

I think if a team this highly touted gets bounced early you have to strongly consider a coaching change.
You absolutely do. But I think the trade deadline's moves showed that Torts is here to stay, whether we like it or not. His system can work, but at the same time he needs to adapt and make adjustments, which he doesn't do. He also does not allow for offensive creativity half the time.

At the same time, who is available that is better than Torts? Also, I believe the problem is that Torts' system was perfect for last year's team, not this years.

Everything but this sentence is completely accurate. Shot blocking is one of the few aspects of his game that have actually improved this year.

But otherwise, yeah. This team could miss the playoffs or win the cup. I have no ****ing clue what they're going to do.

It's less noticeable. As a team, we block less shots, so I suppose it seems like Callahan is part of that.

My biggest problem with Torts is I feel any player producing is a ticking time bomb. Brassard is all kinds of amazing. How long, especially with a full Torts camp, before he becomes another shot blocking robot?

I'm willing to give any replacement that wants to bring some offense in a chance. Just as long as -for the love of ktulu- it's not Lindy Ruff. He's from the same school as Torts, only without the success :help:

Honestly if I never see Boyle again on the Rangers it'll be too soon. Torts benches players for way less. That selfish piece of **** took a disgusting penalty. I want this garbage POS on some other team.

Yeah blame our only goal scorer, that did hustle through the whole game. Nevermind Callahan, Nash, Richards, Stepan that would make Wolski&Zherdev look like heart and soul players. But of course, it's Boyle, it always is :shakehead

I'm sure this has been noted before, but right now the Rangers are the hockey equivalent of a sexually frustrated teenager.

As far as the Boyle penalty goes, what sticks out to me is how fast Ribeiro's torn achilles healed between the penalty and him coming out for the powerplay. Guy must be Wolverine or something.

That's where adapting his system comes in. Torts is a stubborn guy, but he was an offensive genius with Tampa Bay. Maybe he feels like we don't have the personnel, or that Lundqvist and a strong defense is enough, but he's wrong in both cases.

I'm no Boyle fan, but good on him for hustling and working hard. He's not as talented as the rest of the guys on your list, but he has the right attitude, and the others can learn something from him.

I thought Boyle had a good game - despite the retaliation penalty - and have no beef with the way Torts handles his minutes at all. The work attitude he displays needs to be conveyed to the Big 3 - The Big Money boys (although Cally tries hard)...
The handling of the PP and the general overall strategy of the art of offensive hockey however leaves very much to be desired.

SO &&&damn frustrating. Both Dmen are in front of their guys on the GWG. Neither Dman is looking at their man, tying up their stick or god forbid clearing them from the crease. Instead Moore actually gets cleared aside. 4 rangers in front and two caps yet the 2 caps touch the puck without any trouble. WTF is that!? How bout take it as a personal offense when someone is standing with you by YOUR goalie and you start pushing them and causing all sorts of discomfort any way that the rules allow? I watched from 5 left in the 3rd to the end. This could and SHOULD be a done series right now but in both OT games our offense failed miserably and let down Lundqvist. It softens the blow greatly that they showed up for 3 & 4 but ONE SHOT in the entire 3rd period with over 15 mins gone by? Are you ******* me with that mess? Still no goal from Nash or at least another great assist/play to lead to a goal. 2 winnable games in 6 & 7 but they're two losable games as well

The Renney postseason teams looked better than any of the Torts postseason teams.

If they lose, that's 3 first round exits and a non-playoff season in five years. Torts would be the first Rangers coach to last that long with that kind of ineptitude.

Maybe the players do hate him. The lack of effort is mind boggling.

Both the Rangers and Caps lost game 5 last season in the first round. They won games 6 and 7 to win their series. Win game 6. The Rangers have never won game 7 on the road. Its time to break that.

Everyone knows they have zero chance to win this series now right?

They can't win in Washington. Proven fact.

So what you're telling me is they've never won a hockey game in Washington?

So they've never won a playoff game in Washington?

They've never come back from 3-2 against Washington?

They've never won an elimination game in Washington?

Conveniently ignoring the best season and post season we've had since 1994 in the analysis. Clever.

This team has all of the pieces to go far, it's the system that's holding us back, that much we can agree on...
A team with Stepan, Brassard, Nash, Zuccarello, Richards, Callahan should not be scoring 1 goal a game on the road and icing pucks because they can't cross the red-line, it's the system folks.

Could you do me a favor, and outline some of the finer points of this system for me? I hear a ton about it, but get conflicting responses.

Let's make one thing clear, if it is ONE thing this roster miss, it's an offensive punch from the blueline. All other flaws in relation to that one is purely cosmetic (crease clearing/shooting etc).

Whoever said we need to shake things up and mentioned Miller and Kreider -- I agree. We cannot play 60 minutes. We are tired as it is after half a season and round 1. We MUST have a 4th line. It's idiotic by Torts not to realize that. IDIOTIC. Put in Miller and Kreider on the 4th, play them 12-15 minutes and hope to get a Hagelin-Mitchell effect.

I mentioned them. In regards to next year.

Neither are ready, and both are a liability.

Henrik Lundqvist is this team. Heart and soul. The ONLY one who truly cares, and hates losing more than liking to win.

I feel so bad for him, yet I am so thankful that he is our goalie.

Yeah, right. Hank cares and the rest of them are thinking about what they will be having for dinner after the game.
