Friday afternoon, I believe we have witnessed something we have never seen before. And I have been watching hockey for over 40 years. Never have I seen 18 consecutive passes leading to a goal. And this was at 5 on 5! I don't believe I ever saw it on the PP either. 18 passes, are you kidding me? Talk about puck management! I don't believe the NHL keeps records on such things, but what we saw was very, very rare,... as in most likely never happened before.

Strome taking the faceoff to the right of Swayman with 43 seconds left in the first period, the Rangers passed it around in the zone, out of reach of the Bruins 18 times before getting off a high-quality chance 3 feet in front of Swayman, who was powerless to stop Strome's blast that close in front. It was a thing of beauty that many don't realize how very rare that was to see. Up until that point the Bruins were dominating. After that shift the Rangers took over the game.

I could watch this clip 100 times and never get tired of it. Go ahead count the 18 uninterrupted passes.
Sorry for the small resolution. Couldn't find the complete shift online, so I had to upload it myself with restrictions to file size.

Yea I do remember they won in Philly in 2000 and I remember being stunned they ended the Devils unbeaten streak against them in 2001, rare good times lol:

I believe I missed the third period I was so nervous. They should have ended the streak earlier that season when they were leading 5-3, I think it was in the third period but gave up to for a 5-5 tie.

I didn't realize how many passes that was, good catch. That said why do you assume it's never happened before?

Because it was totally insane. Many didn't catch it because it didn't resemble a team on the powerplay. Lots of times you see a team control the puck 5 on 5 like they were on the PP. But this wasn't one of those times because the Rangers had to pass the puck quickly, cause they did not have time or space. It was very necessary to move it quickly and so for that reason it didn't resemble a PP. So for the Rangers to keep it away from the Bruins, who are the top defensive team the last five years, for that much time, 40 seconds or so, without leaving the zone was just spectacular. And with it leading to a goal, I believe that makes it record breaking. 18 passes leading to a goal, that is ridiculous. There is no way you have seen that before.

no fine or discipline for Pageau hitting Lindgren in the head

no fine or discipline for McAvoy's knee on Rooney

no fine or discipline for Andreoff's third man in on Hunt

tell me again why I should care about other players and their safety LMAO
Yep. Not to mention Subban. And that’s just this season.

When we won the Presidents' trophy in 2015 I felt like the team looked significantly worse than the 2013-14 team after they figured it out. The most dominant team in terms of play on ice regardless of the score was that 2013-14 team, they just took over games in terms of possession. BTW, there's one big reason they will not win the PT and it doesn't have to do with the regular roster. It's Georgiev, we'll be throwing away games because of the bum.

The AV teams just steadily got worse, it was so annoying. AV really didn't know how to run an effective defense (still doesn't really) and ditching Stralman and bringing in Boyle probably should have had more analysis at the time. I've always said "yeah the Rangers D was extremely low scoring that year and that was a big concern" but Stralman was real good, Boyle wasn't the answer, and AV's influence on the roster seemed to make it worse every year

but maybe I'm blaming him too much.

The teams got worse for AV too thats where the problem lies, show me a good team ill show you a good coach. I always wanted Gallant, but this team was gonna be better than the clusterf*** that was last year because of all the issues this team had with having the team in the lineup, players got older, we added toughness and grit and got rid of some dead weight. This was always gonna be the year we move ahead. If Shesterkin wasnt able to play for the next 20 games what would our record be?

Can we just take a minute and appreciate Lafreniere burying that 4th goal top titty? Great, confident snipe by the kid.

And Gauthier just impresses big time on his assists. A guy like him, don't wanna get ahead of myself, but that skill set is huge in the playoffs in a tight game when you have a bull with that kind of speed on the bottom lines who can create a rush chance out of nothing. When the games are crazy tight, having a third liner who can push the pace and create chances off the rush - even if he doesn't score which Gauthier doesn't - being able to create high danger chances is huge.

The thing about the 14 team was Mcdonagh was playing like a Norris contender. Teams that have one of those usually win Cups or at least give themselves a real chance more so than even a good goalie

having Fox if he is healthy I like our chances and frankly trouba is playing fantastic hockey behind him
Trouba has been truly fantastic this season. He's been more than the player I expected this season. He's been playing like a borderline #1 defenseman so far this season, maybe a low end one but still he's been fantastic. Having him play like this behind Fox has been beyond huge.

I am hoping Gauthier has turned a corner. He always had potential, with his skill and speed. His problem was mental mistakes. But it is rare now you see him make any mistakes ever since he got back into the lineup. He always had that ability to go hard to the net, crush opponents, and display soft hands, but was a liability defensively. That has all changed with the chance he got with Blais going down. He might have finally matured into the player we see today. I'm hoping he keeps it up and doesn't backpedal. If so, he can be an important piece to this team as you mentioned.

I couldn't agree more. Trouba has been playing lights out this season. Truly one of the bright spots so far this year. Never seen him break up so many plays before, whether separating a player from the puck or using his stick. His work in the offensive zone is nothing but icing on the cake.

He is still behind Fox and Lindgren in the depth chart, but only because they have upped their defensive play as well. Although, Fox seems a bit more human this year with giving up a few turnovers leading to high quality chances. We didn't see that last year. Still, Foxy breaks up many more plays than most D-man are capable of.
