The regular season ends March 5th and is followed by three rounds of (best of seven series) playoffs. Since both Fasth and Lindberg are playing on top teams they won't be available for at least another couple of weeks. The dates below show when they could be available. Of course, if one of those teams are swept (which is very, very unlikely) the player will be available a bit earlier.

QFs end March 24th or 25th
SFs end April 9th or 10th
Fs end April 24th
 
I guess I shouldn't have expected anything different given that we waited an extra 4 months for this game, but... jeeeeeeeez, guys. It's too much to say that the team looked like they were rusty as hell, playing against the team that had the most players actually playing during the lockout in their building during the opener and leave it at that?

I know it's a shortened schedule, but even so, I'm not going to panic about this team unless they look like this 10-15 games into the season. Shake it off and get ready to go today.
 
I honestly would have expected more of this team. I mean you can always run into a hot team/goalie but Rask made what, 2 good saves? Overall it looked a lot like NYR 2012 playoff hockey - just not that good.

The Good: Lundqvist, McD, Del Zotto keeping firing from the blueline on our PP - not that he'd ever hit the net, but it's nice to know somebody cares. Pyatt was decent. That Nash guy has a little skill as well. The PK.
The Bad: Staal was very inconsistent, bad turnover to Seguin. Bickel, but ya know, he's Bickel. I don't think the timing of the fights was too good. The refs were bad, but I'm not gonna use that as a excuse. The call on Boyle was borderline ridiculous, however.
The Redden: Y U no forecheck? The PP. Gaborik, Kreider, Hagelin. Lucic mouthing off to the refs because of a 2 minute penalty after hitting Hagelin from behind into the boars.

The Outlook: Can a team with Nash, Richards and Gaborik be that bad offensively over a longer period of time? The answer is no. They'll turn things around. Better start doing that soon, season ain't that long and home ice would be nice.
 
Not much to complain on nor talk about really.

Look, Boston is a very good team at home and a very good with a lead (32-0-0 after leading after 2 periods). We did well against them last season, but they are not a good fit for us either (good at getting the puck up ice and strong D's).

We can beat them, but basically only if we go in there and don't give up a darn thing. Tonight:
1. We had too many players looking to make a splash/live up to their hype or whatever you call it. That results in some casualities as regards to following a game plan. IE, we gave up too much.
2. Its G1 of the year. We are not going to be perfect defensively.

If anything worries me, its lack of speed on the bottom two lines. Boston has guys like Bourque, Paille, Kelly, Peverly and co on their 3rd and 4th lines. We have 4 giants, a short goon and a 36 y/o center. Not a single guy who I would label as a "energy player", that could turn out to be a weakness for us.

Besides that, I wouldn't take away much from this game. Its G1 of the season but its already 20 January. You get dirty pts only this time of the year, and we shouldn't expect something that isn't dirty. I've seen 5 games from last night, and besides like the first period of Pittsburgh and a few other shorter stints in other games, grinding is what its about out there. Boston got a first lucky goal, and I mean, we aren't ready to come from behind against Boston team that is intact from last season. Not much more about it.
 
Id say the main things that upset me again about last night are:

1. Getting stuck in our defensive zone the way we used to last year. I mean for crying out loud pass the puck to someone and skate. Its like people were scared of the puck and only knew to dump up the boards.

2. Again in the offensive zone no passing. Why the hell is everyone scared of skating with the puck or making a crisp pass. Its like they only know how to dump it in. We need Nash to do more of what he did when he skated the puck in on his own and made a shot. That rebound led to our only goal. Sad that Nash is the only one not scared of the puck, but it seemed like he tried so hard to not be a puck hog and show team play.

3. Overall lack of chemistry, and stupid amateur mistaked from many players. I can go on for a long time with this list but ill leave it at that. Kreiders terrible shift change which led to a Bruins goal, Hagelins blind passes.

The main thing I hate about the rangers is their dump and chase tactic. I was really hoping we'd see some nice passing. Boston displayed it greatly. Boston hockey last night is how Rangers hockey should look every night.

Yup, totally not in sync a lot of times and just weren't quite up to matching Boston's intensity. Like you said, I'll be more worried if this continues for a long period of time, but for now I think it's early season rust

Boston did a real good job of not giving the Rangers any time with the puck, something the Rangers didn't do a good enough job at
 
Honestly not worried. The Bruins played very well at home and I think we looked sloppy/rusty more than we looked plain old bad. PP has to do more but with richards, nash, gaborik, del zotto and stepan im sure that will happen. Also seemed like we go out hit, especially through the first half of the game. I can only imagine what the talk with Tortorella was like in the locker room after the game. My bet is they come out way more fired up tonight against Pittsburg.
 
I didn't even know what to expect so I'm not that disappointed, but I am really worried about the PP, which showed no signs of cohesion, not even the 5-on-3. If it doesn't start to resemble some kind of a man advantage, we will be in trouble.
 
Considering how poorly the second line played and mediocre the 1st line played, I don't think the problem was the bottom six

Kreider is not entitled to a top line position. He has to earn this position and basically force the coaches to put him on a top line. This is what Hagelin did last year.
 
I thought Pyatt played pretty well. He was very strong on the puck and good in the corners.

Overall, the Rangers were just a step behind. It's no surprise, really, since the Bruins had 12 players playing during the lockout - the most of any team. So they were already more in synch than we.

I'm not worried about how a line of Rick Nash and Brad Richards will turn around, however I am not seeing a cup contending team running a third line of Boyle and Pyatt and getting much production.
 
Only took one game to remember what an offensive Black hole BRIAN BOYLE IS . Can honestly see NYR not winning a game this month with upcoming schedule
 
Well pressure game already. Loss today and big bad bruins may make us 0-3 on wed.
 
Boyle did look especially bad. He also fell down time and time again along the boards.

I thought Pyatt looked alright even if he didn't get any good scoring chances. Boyle has to get his **** together though or that line is going to be unable to cycle the puck effectively like they need to

Stepan and Hagelin need to step it up a lot. I thought Callahan played well all things considered. Gaborik got a couple of chances but his line in general just never seemed to be in position to be a threat, he never got the puck with a clear shot

Oh well, the trick is to see how they bounce back tonight.

Again I thought there was a distinct issue with the players trying to get used to each other. Every line was a little weird and different and there was a lot of passing to where there wasn't a teammate, etc. That's something that will take a little time to sort out, but should get sorted

Stralman was OK in the 1st I though. After that not so much. I would like to see him utilized more on the PP. I think he could be better than MDZ there - who cannot hit the net for his life.
Bickel saw very little ice time. He really smashed some face though. TKO. His play was quite erratic at times. Yes indeed. Seemed overcharged. Skating is meh. But he was imo not as bad as some people are saying.
MDZ was not that bad. I thought he had an alright defensive game. Not much offense and poor on PP
Staal was very uneven. Lost his man on 0-1, had 2 terrible giveaways combined with some good play.
Girardi had an OK game. Did not notice him much, usually a good thing, and blocked some shots
McD was by FAR the best Ranger on the ice. His game dropped offa bit in the 3rd, but I really like the offensive initiative he had especially joing in on the rush. If he continues and gets the right feeds it could be a (very expensive though) breakout offensive year for him along with excelling in the defensive zone. That Gomez trade sure was a great one for the Habs!
 
Looked to me like the team is discombobulated. Didn't play bad, per se, except for Hagelin who was awful, but didn't really look like they were all on the same page. Going to take a few games for them to mesh.

Yeah, but back then they were mighty.

I didn't notice this as much but man does Boston sport a team with big schnozes. Every time I saw Marchand and Lucic, I had to wipe my nose.
 
The only enjoyable thing about a Rangers loss is reading posts from the suicidal and ref bashers.

For those in the thread who claim the ref was biased against them, are there any refs biased towards the Rangers or against teams other than the Rangers? Just curious.

Dead on the money about Boyle. Guy has no offensive game. Kreider will struggle with him
 
I have a hard time seeing how Eminger can be worse than Bickel. Bickel is a liability every time he's on the ice.

Most players were underwhelming last night to say the least. Nash had some flashes or brilliance, Richards tried, Lundqvist kept the numbers respectable basically all by himself. If not for him in net, we would've been blown out.

Our offense was terrible, our PP even worse and our defense suspect. At least we had great goaltending, as usual. But, since this was the first game, alot of new faces and basically no chemistry, I can't be that disappointed. They need time.
