Yep. The NHL went completely overboard trying to fix something that wasn't (IMO) broken, because of the Oilers. It's not even 1 lottery, there are 3. The poor Coyotes had only an 18.0% chance at #1, which is kind of absurd. Not only that, but since all the Top-3 picks are in play, Arizona has a very realistic chance of dropping down to 4th overall. It's a great time to be below average.

Just look at last year's results:

And the alternative is sneaking into the playoffs and getting our asses kicked. We sucked even with a fully healthy lineup, and I don’t see that changing. I think this is a good time to help recoup some assets and get development time in for the younger dmen like Pionk, ADA, Gilmour, and Skjei.

I'm just raising the idea that we could have separate GDT's for those of us who want the team to win vs lose.
I understand one might want the team to lose but I just think it's annoying to read cheers when conceding goals. In my mind it just completely destroys the feeling of fandom.
I really haven't noticed this. In any case, people have differing stances on this, just like any other topic on here, so I would suggest simply ignoring it if possible.

I honestly don't mind this system. Blatant tanking is an eye sore, and if a team gets as bad as Arizona is, or Edmonton was, I don't think it's fair to give them a top two pick every year until they stumble into a McDavid.

And last year is a bit of an aberration. By my quick calculations, the chances of three teams from outside the top four winning are 13.9%, so like twice every 15 years, much less throwing the 8th and 13th ranked teams in there.

I'm from Brooklyn but I still can't root for the Islanders unless the Rangers are out of the playoffs...if they win the cup, will they celebrate in Brooklyn or Long Island?

Parade right down Atlantic.

I like this system. It isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t simply reward having a fire sale, keeping decent NHL ready players in the AHL/overseas and icing a garbage team. Dallas finished in the 8 spot and had the 3rd overall pick. Philadelphia in the 13 spot had 2nd and New Jersey went from 5th to 1st. This gives teams like us hope. We’re gonna commit to a rebuild. We’re gonna sell on expiring contracts and guys we don’t want to commit to long term. We’re not going to move Lundqvist or sit him, so we’re not gonna be a bottom three team. Does that mean we simply should be mediocre forever? Again, system isn’t perfect but when I see #8 and 13 moving into 2/3 it gives me a lot of hope.

If they are playing Pittsburgh or Montreal I don't mind them winning. Isles aren't my most hated team. Pittsburgh & Montreal constantly take the lead from each other in that category.

Yeah, as a Canadian Rangers fan, the Isles easily fall behind Toronto and Montreal for me. Them, Pittsburgh and Boston would be in my next tier for sure.

Please embarass this franchise tonight. Score ten, chant snow must stay, kansas city, let it rain down.

Ive had it with this cesspool team.

I want them to come out and play the first few minutes well, with a bit of emotion.

Stan Fischler is like the antithesis of a hockey announcer for me. I feel like he should own a bagel store.

“Did you try the scallion cream cheese with some lox?”
