Some deal Drury made.

So a 1st only if we make the ECF in a loaded East but it would be 24/25? They didn’t even give up a prospect?

Keeping every meaningful prospect is how you keep the cupboard full for years. Not hoarding draft picks, and we still have our first rounder in a "generational" draft. If Dallas gets bounced early it could be in the low 20s. Tidy work by Drury making a deal every single hockey person would have made. Outside of HFBoards at least.

I mean, we're all-in. Our core is locked in for the next 3-4 seasons. We gave up all futures outside of VK in all our deadline deals. All of our prospects that we expect to backfill in that time were left untouched. I'm curious to see how this leadership group will react now that they're expected to win. Last year was a pleasant surprise for a team with no expectations outside of scraping their way to a WC berth. The pressure just got turned up to the max.

I'd rather move the picks later than the ones now if you're going to move them at all.

There are plenty of guys on the roster now who are going to be moved along the way to recoup some (if not most) of whats been lost. Drury basically restocked his picks from what he used at the deadline last year (minus the 1st that triggered for Copp) with the Georgiev trade. As much as people don't want to hear it, Lindgren isn't going to be here beyond next season at the very latest. The Likes of Kreider and Trouba probably don't finish out their contracts here either.

I agree with everything you said here but lets be honest Lindgren isnt going anywhere. Why do i have to keep defending a top 4 defenseman who does things that nobody else does on this team who makes 3m per a year to not be a CAP DUMP.

Enough. It isnt happening, we dont have the depth, we dont have the replacements yet like jones or robertson and nobody we get is going to be able to fill in for him for the cost.

Also Lindy next contract isnt going to break the bank. You sign him for another 3-4 years at 3.5-4 per and then after that contract you can move him bc he will be hitting the age that girardi started to break down.

Find someone else thats going to be a cap casualty.

We lose in round 1 or 2 and it's a 2nd rounder.

We make the ECF and it's a late pick in 2024 or 2025.

We didn't give up any prospects, let alone our best. We didn't give up the Dallas pick in this year's draft which has been vaunted as loaded and GENERATIONAL by the people in here complaining. So worst case scenario we make the ECF or SCF and don't win and we give up what is sure to be a late 1st next year or the year after. Not that big a deal. You lose the 2025 first, you really don't think we could find another one at some point? We got one in 2017 out of nowhere. We just got one for freaking Nils Lundkvist in what is supposed to be a stacked first round.

This is about as desirable as a win now trade can get.

The worst thing for perception was that it leaked we would get him for nothing so fans literally expected Kane for a 5th and a 7th or something. No NHL GM is going to embarrass another GM like that when they're over a barrel, it was never going to be that low. In real life, in GM world and the hockey world this IS getting him for basically nothing. This IS a steal.

We can all clutch our pearls over draft picks and what not but this team is good, they have as good a chance as any of the other contenders to go all the way this year and they acquired two top 6 RWers as well as a 3LD and a 4LW. The lineup as as complete as it's going to be in the coming years IMO.

And i don't even want to hear any whining about losing draft picks. We made crazy amounts of draft picks for like 4 straight years, half our roster is under 25, we still have 1st this year, we will surely be trading some prospects/players to recoup more draft capital.
