From the NYPOST (cyrgalis)

“Center is my natural position, so I like to fight for that spot,” he said. “I’m going to try to be in that spot and play second[-line] center and create a position in the team, play more minutes and be on the ice for important things.” Filip Chytil

@jas Whatcha gonna do brother
There was a newsday article from last season in like March after Quinn put him back at center where he said he felt more comfortable at center because he’s played there most of his life and there was a quote from Quinn saying they envisioned him as a center

He’s a center. He’s always been a center he came to Hartford as a barely 18 year old center and dominated. He looks like Hayes does when he has to play wing.

Big strong elite skating playmaker. He’ll learn to defend. You don’t take guys like that out of the middle. Glad our management team knows it.

Hope he’s right despite many NHL observers convinced otherwise.

That's the problem I have with the coaches. They take these young kids and screw with their heads. Moving Chytil to the wing, Buchy to the 4th line, etc, etc... It messes with their heads. And I know the coaches are just wanting to put the best lines/players on the ice at any given time, but this doesn't build confidence in our future players.

I hope they give Chytil ample time in the middle, and Buchy a good long tryout on the first line, before pulling them like last year.

I was never a big fan of shaking up the lines, to get things going, but I guess it has some advantages.

I've always seen Chytil as a center. His size--his skating, his ability to cover lots of territory. The scoring will come naturally IMO--he's got the talent for that. What he needs to work on most is his defensive responsibilities and face-offs. His size and skating though has always put him over Andersson as a center for me.

No longer the youngest Ranger, Filip Chytil is embracing...

“For now, coach David Quinn has made the commitment to Chytil as a center after he spent a big chunk of last season in a more protected role on the wing.

Center is my natural position, so I’d like to fight for it, for a spot, and try to earn that spot and play second center … play more minutes than last year and be an important (part of) the team,” Chytil said Sunday at training camp.

They are still kids though with emotions, don't forget that.

And they are getting similar treatment to what they received at every other level of hockey. Chytil was put on the wing so he could focus on his game without worrying about the extra responsibilities that come with playing center. Would you rather the coaches leave him in a role that he isn't ready for? I'm sure that would do wonders for his confidence.

If moving Buch to the 4th line for being shitty at times "mess[ed] with [his] head", that says far more about Buch than it does coaching. If he's that fragile, he shouldn't be on the team.

I don't think chytil is an elite playmaker at all...I see him more of a puck carrier and finisher than anything . Puck on his stick I like his ability to gain the zone with speed... But with it on his stick he doesn't make the right plays all that often. I think he's a winger because of his lack of passing and his iq.. but we'll see.

Mika was like that too, per my memory, the first year or two with the Rangers. I hope Filip can follow in Mika's footsteps. I think he has the tools. But I agree, at the moment he's not a playmaker.

I wouldn’t say he’s an elite playmaker not yet at least.

My post was elite skating playmaker. Meaning he’s an elite skater, and a playmaker. To clarify.

But I’ve seen plenty of flashes of great playmaking ability to leave me with the impression that he will be very good soon especially with really good wingers.

I’m not sure the center needs to be the playmaker on a line any longer. I’d be more inclined to find an elite transporter of the puck
Yep. On offense there's no need to pigeonhole the positions. There are so many permutations and possibilities. It's on defense that the positions matter.

Agree to disagree on Chytil as a playmaker. He's more of a TWF/PWF. He's not a playmaker nor a sniper. He's a tough player to get a bead on. This season is huge for both he and Lias, both as players and in terms of determining what kind of player they are going to be at the next level.

This is a good point. But in Chytil's case, he has always been a center. So what extra responsibility are you referring to? Is not the responsibilities of center in the NHL, the same as in the AHL? And being he struggles to handle the leap in competition, you have him learn a totally new position, instead of perhaps letting him learn from his mistakes at his natural position. You see my point? I'm not saying this is the proper way, just thoughts I always had.
