Rakell can sign in the KHL or Europe...right?.....that has to reduce the Ducks' leverage....if it drags on they'd risk losing him for nothing.

For a fringe European player, that might be tempting. Rakell is not a fringe player. Anaheim would still hold his rights, so if he ever wanted to come back to the NHL, he'd go through Anaheim. Which basically means he signs with Anaheim now, or later, and if he isn't in the NHL he's going to have a tough time raising his value when they discuss that contract again.

Signing with Anaheim is almost certainly the best situation for him financially.

Unless there's an offer sheet.

Sure, but an offer sheet doesn't scare me. People love to throw them out as potential risks, but the truth is that GM's aren't in the habit of making their own job harder. An offer sheet that both encourages Rakell and dissuades Anaheim is going to be an inflated one. Why set the precedent that an RFA talent like Rakell can command that kind of money?

If it isn't an inflated offer, you're either looking at something Anaheim has no problem matching, or you can expect Rakell to turn it down.

And that's the risk here. It's either that a GM makes a poor decision and offers Rakell an inflated contract, or that a GM makes a very fair offer, and Anaheim has no problem with matching.

That also isn't really relevant to Rakell signing in the KHL or Europe.

This is a good point and they only give up a lousy second and has a top 6 winger. I would do that deal all day long if I was the rest of the league.

So what are you signing him to that guarantees Rakell will sign it, and that Anaheim won't match?

Now the important question: Does this impact what other RFA's will start expecting, when you need to sign your own players?

If you're willing to offer an RFA on another team so much, why not your own RFA's?

Second round pick should do.

Seriously, I have no clue how he hasn't been offer sheeted yet.

2nd round pick won't do it. Maybe because teams don't actually like offer sheeting someone especially someone who has had the medical problems Rakell has had recently.

Sure he can but if he did that over signing a short term bridge deal for similar money he would be stupid. Don't see him actually signing to play in the KHL.

To the first part. What we do know is Rakell has threatened KHL due to contract disputes. So that's a given fact. Whether it's money or term we don't know. But giving up a 2nd rounder who most likely will never be a Rakell? That's a slam dunk for any franchise in the league. And Anaheim won't match because we have Lindholm to sign as well for big $$

Second bold, it really doesn't matter down the road on other teams RFA's if they are good as Rakell they'll poney up the cash and get them signed. Simple as that. No way you let Rakell contracts go on this long when you are planning him in your top 6.

Third bold, you're talking about just a few selective teams who hasn't signed there RFAs already.

So what, then he looks like an idiot. Ducks would still have his rights whenever he's done being a baby.

Actually, getting the most that he can for his services seems like he's being a mature adult. Perhaps if the Ducks can't afford to be a cap team they should sell to owners who can or move to a market that can sustain it.

It's not Rakell's fault that the GM gave or acquired stupid contracts to players who don't deserve it.

You didn't answer my question. What are those teams offering Rakell, that guarantees he signs with him, and that Anaheim doesn't match? The KHL has no significance in that. At all. If Anaheim has no chance to match, then they would have moved Rakell already because they wouldn't be able to sign him either. That means they can match. It may take some maneuvering, but you can't say, with absolute certainty, that the Ducks won't be able to match an offer sheet.

I think the second point went over your head. If you pay Rakell more, and you start having to pay your other RFA's more, you're paying more period. Which means you run into more cap and salary problems. Which means you've done a ****** job as a GM, because you put yourself into that bind.

Apparently the third point went over your head too. What makes you think that only applies to RFA still un-signed? And not future RFA's? If I saw my GM was willing to pay more for Rakell, and I considered myself a comparable talent, I'd want the same dough, and there would be precedence for me to ask for more.

How can you even say that, without knowing what's been offered? There are comparables that are signing in the $2+ million range so unless BM is offering something significantly less than that then I'd say it's Rakell who's being difficult here.

From what I understand is that the team that owns his rights in the KHL have expressed interest in signing him. Not that Rakell has threatened to bolt to the KHL. That was always an option for Rakell. This really isn't news that the team that owns his rights would want to sign him. The Ducks own his rights and want to sign him.

As for the second, I'll kindly disagree. Every time a player bypass the bridge straight into long term deals it starts throwing salary structure out of wack. It also inflates what players demand on short term deals and on their next deals. IE if Rakell gets around 4 mill after 1 good season what does a similar player demand after their next deal? It's a slippery slope and leads to lock outs. The past has proven this.

As for the third, it's not like there are a whole lot of teams in similar situations. The fact is we don't know what has been offered or asked for. As such is really too soon to start expecting worst case scenarios.

We don't know I just gave an opinion. We don't know dollar amount at all. But isn't kinda funny how two RFAs havent signed yet, and Lindholm publicly stated that our organization is being cheap?

Murray got himself in this mess with all the bad contracts. Simple as that.

Okay, if going offer sheet way, throw Lindholm an inflated one, Anaheim will always match for their 1D. Take Rakell after they match and trade for him or sign him to an offer sheet just out of their range.

Simple move and simple tactic. I would do it. It's pure strategy. Oilers did it to us with Penner. So? Like wtf bring on the offer sheets if Murray wants to go into preseason with what he have

It's strange that you want the team to be worse. You seemingly hate Murray so much, that you want the team to be worse so that it, what? Can confirm your dislike of Murray?

This. Moronic contracts like Bieksa and Stoner. 7 million in cap space allotted to two bottom pairing defenders. If that 7 million was in the bank, I guarantee both players would have been signed by now since BM wouldn't have been forced, due to his lack of foresight, by our internal budget to hardball each of our RFAs for as little money as possible. He's trying to play Bargain Bob again when he only has to play that moniker because he spent 7 million dollars on two bottom pairing defenders, also giving one of these defenders a full NMC despite persistent rumors of expansion happening soon. Once again, no foresight.

As for Rakell going to Russia, I don't see it happening. The KHL team that owns his rights is situated in a nice little place called Siberia. That team also isn't exactly wealthy, so it's not like Rakell can earn more money there than we'd be willing to pay him. Any logic that makes him think going to Russia is the right option in the event of a contract dispute is pure fallacy.

Look were in a mess. He made his bed. If you feel comfortable with Kerdiles out, Thompson out, that only leaves Jones as a potential call up as an impact player. I'm not okay with that being our roster. If you want to rely on 17 goal scorer Vermette that's on you.
