Not even worried about the outcome of this game.

Jones can pitch. He wasn't brilliant (location was a little too on the plate) but the spin rate and ability to generate whiffs is legit.

I like his tenacity and resilience in being in some tough situations (leadoff triple earlier, then double that inning, getting out of both without giving up a run).

That was a really, really good lineup he just had a quality start vs while punching out 7 vs 0 walks.

It's frustrating that they're losing this game when the Pirates could easily be winning like 4-2 right now.

Playing Joe over one of McCutchen or Suwinski probably would have yielded an additional run today .
You know the home opener is gonna have cutch

Who has been ice cold

Suwinski hasn't been terrible

But yeah, the pirates are just shooting themselves in the foot with some of these ABs

I think I'm most concerned about Davis at this point. McCutchen may be old and washed up and Suwinski is what he is, but Davis simply needs to hit. He tore it up in spring but has been a dud in the regular season so far.

At least the bullpen is imploding in a game where they're not scoring runs.

Just bad by Davis, Suwinski and McCutchen. Wasted a great game by Cruz. Oh well.
Grayson Rodriguez is going to be a top pitcher in baseball. I just hope this series is not like the Rays/Jays in May 2023 redux, where we psychologically implode afterwards.

I don’t think they’ll implode. I just worry about the development of our hitters. And I’m sure that sounds crazy because we’ve scored a ton of runs but they’re not going to face the nationals and marlins every game.

Thought they battled and the orioles are a tier above us. Just have to hope the young guys can sneak away to learn how to build a game plan at the plate.

I don't think Haines is a total disaster. We were very competitive in the 2nd half last year with no starting pitching.

I think the outcome of hitting is like 90% on the hitter himself and only 10% on the hitting coach. A higher % than pitching. If Davis busts it's going to be on him and not Andy Haines.

I was at the game today. It's obvious, but it was on the offense. Cutch and Davis were abysmal, especially Davis. Cutch popping up the first pitch in a big situation was a real momentum killer, and Davis right now is like clockwork to take big hack at the first fastball and completely whiff. His timing seems to be off or something.

Suwinski also had multiple chances to damage and couldn't get it done. The bullpen letting additional runs in wasn't ideal, but Stratton basically just had bad luck.

The one player to rave about is definitely Jones, who was even more impressive today. He gives up some loud contact, but it's really key that he doesn't get into too many extended ABs or get wild and walk guys. I thought he attacked the LHB pretty well as the game went on too. I think it makes a fair amount of sense to be cautious about his pitch count, especially early on, so if you can get 6 innings like that, you absolute bank them.

What sucks is just the overall context. Drawing Grayson vs. Jones is bad luck, since now it's Falter tomorrow which feels like an easy, automatic L. The only bit of luck is that we are missing Burnes, so hopefully we can salvage 1 of the two and then gear up for a 2-game battle with Detroit, where luckily we will also miss Skubal.

Unfortunately might be a miss for me. I don't get back to the area too often so will be making the rounds to friends and family this weekend I think.

Today was extremely cold, but luckily my friend's seats are under the overhang, so we stayed dry. Hoping we can pull out a surprise on offense. I think Wells and Kremer are both beatable, and I think Gonzales pitched well in his first outing, but so hard to see how there's a path with Falter vs. this lineup. Maybe we dance through 4 IP and then go to the pen? It's gonna take 5-6 runs easy.
