Wow. Wake forest went from preseason number 1 to two and done in the tournament. Hopefully Yeasavage has a big run with East Carolina. I’m desperately hoping Nick Kurtz falls to us

What a bunch of dopes. Dont they know the bench coach only coaches benches? The issue with scoring runs is on the players

Well, they're batting today...

... Fingers crossed

Radio said it's been 7 years since we beat TOR.. 9 losses in a row
Keller better go out for the sixth and maybe the seventh. Don’t let the bullpen blow this

Solid bounce back. I missed most of it as I was getting drunk off my ass in the German beer bar watching Dortmund choke the Champions League final, but nice to see Keller remain an anchor in the rotation.

It's all kind of bittersweet because of how middling the team is and how many chances are thrown away. We can only saw the same things so many times. The middling record with such outstanding starting pitching just sucks. Maybe we can win the series, but also, who cares.

Why wouldn't we have brought back Andujar? He was our best player in August and September. He clearly figured it back out again.

Why is Priester pitching?

Also, Rowdy in the lineup is beyond parody.

Imagine complaining about not having Andujar after a game where the Pirates put up 8 runs.

Man, I swear some of you have to just be trolls at this point. Nothing logical explains the kind of nonsense that gets posted here non-stop.

I'm fine not having andujar, he's one of many roster fill-out level guys in the league

He's just a dude who happens to poppin off for the A's right now

But man, Emp, these lineups are stupid as shit here lol. I'm glad the bats woke up, we knew before the season that THAT would be their only hopes of success.

And it's pretty much been that way. How many games have we won only scoring like 3 or fewer runs? Four. That's it. That means 23 of our other wins we scored more than 3 runs.

The lineup today is basically identical to the lineup they ran with yesterday, but with Olivares out and Tellez in.

The lineup they're running with today is exactly the 1-6 they should be running with going forward, outside of maybe swapping Gonzales and Hayes for the 5 and 6 spot. For the 7-9 spot, it's going to be just some mishmash of whatever players the team has on the roster to fill the remaining spots. They should be moving on from Tellez so they don't have this enormous black hole when he's playing, but he's going to have to play occasionally until they actually move him.

The bottom of the lineup right now is terrible due to Bart's injury and Suwinski and Tellez being terrible this year. But the 1-6 they're running with right now is the exact lineup they should be running with. In a perfect world where Bart is healthy and Suwinski fixes his shit, your lineup would ideally be:

1. McCutchen (DH)
2. Reynolds (RF)
3. Joe (1B) or Hayes (3B)
4. Cruz (SS)
5. Gonzales (2B)
6. Hayes (3B) or Joe (1B)
7. Suwinski (LF)
8. Bart (C)
9. Taylor (CF)

Instead, they're running with Joe in the OF and Tellez, Bae and Koch at the bottom of the order due to injuries and bad play.

There is a mandate to play Tellez against softer-throwing righties. As long as he's here, Cherington is going to hope for a miracle turnaround. He's too pot-committed to Rowdy to do anything else. Shelton works for Cherington and is not going to disobey him and sit Tellez on his own volition.
This is *hopefully* the last time but this is like the 5th time we've thought it was the last time.
Lamb has stopped forcing the issue so they would basically just be bringing in a backup to give Joe a rest. It looks like Matt Gorski has started playing 1B at Indy.

Koch being in is annoying but it's where we're at. It's a hitting pitcher. I think Davis needs to stay in Indy and cut down on the Ks but Delay should be back by next week.

And that's honestly all I think they need. I also think Suwinski being awful is forcing them to play Joe in the OF more than they likely want to. I know in each of Tellez's last few starts, Joe is playing in the OF rather than getting an off-day.

In a perfect world, Suwinski fixes his shit so you can keep Joe locked in at 1B. You then try to find a new backup lefty 1B that can give Joe some off-days against righties.

They score 8 runs one game and will score 8 total in the next 5 games. You think this is the lumber company?

He was a cheap option that is a better hitter than all of our outfielders besides maybe Reynolds and that's a big maybe.

--------

Are we admitting that Hayes completely f***ed and useless now?

They basically have said he is in pain every time he swings and there is nothing that can be done.

Hayes literally hit a HR and went 2-4 yesterday.

Please just stop posting in this thread.

Yep. Data based on the theory that every at bat is treated the same. If you have your pitcher hit cleanup (back when pitchers still hit) you would score 16 fewer runs over the course of the season. This calculation is based on averages, runs scored, etc.

But if I’m pitching and I see the pitcher batting fourth behind prime Albert Pujols, I’m never giving Albert anything to hit. Theres no way he gets the same numbers and there’s no way the team scores as many runs
Pitchers dont bat anymore so i dont see how the extreme example is relevant . And walks are good for the hitting team. Even with poor hitters coming up after. Not in every situation but overall.

There is also data showing that lineup protection is mostly irrelevant.
