Hard to not be impressed with Mitchell at the plate. He hits righties and lefties and his swing is so short/compact.

I don't know how he didn't light up the minors but I'm glad he's here. VanMeter earned some more time...as I've said if we're scouting guys purely on how pretty their swing is VanMeter is a top prospect.

Liked Yerry's stuff.

I think Hayes was a great reminder to not get carried away with any early success, no matter how great it may be, but I'm cautiously optimistic on Mitchell. He looks like a professional when I've seen him play. Even keeled, doesn't seem to get lost in the moment and has been hitting lefties really well this year which is a huge sign for a lefty batter, especially a young one.

Jesus H Christ, Oneil Cruz with 2 more errors today. That's 4 in the last 2 games and 12 on the year. On a day where Indy put up 16 runs he went 1-5 with 2 K's. Average still below the Mendoza line, OPS south of 700.

I'd like to see the "internal positives" on his D play. I want to see him get a shot in the bigs, but to say he's been a disappointment so far, especially playing AAA ball, is an understatement.

Great news is Mason Martin is clearly in the middle of another dominant offensive surge. 3-5, with his 10th dinger, Now at .260/.947 with 26 extra base hits in 39 games. Also 34 RBI's. There is no justification for him to continue to labor at Indy, especially when we need the help at 1B from the left side of the batters box. I'm more pessimistic on Martin against MLB pitching that I am Mitchell, but again, he's clearly earning a shot with the big club.

Yeah, as many times as he will strike out we are due for Martin. Yoshi has made hard contact like 5 times all year. Defensively he kinda sucks at first too. He doesn't strike out as much, but with runners on base Yoshi's 200 foot pop outs are effectively the same.

Hm, wonder who goes down? You would think VanMeter, but not after the day he had today. Maybe Suwinski to AAA?

You have to think the last 2 weeks has prolonged VM's stay, though he's nowhere near as flexible as Marcano around the field. Suwinksi's done enough where I think he'd be safe, especially considering we don't really have much OF depth to begin with.

Given the teams we're about to play, I'd have a hard time thinking we're sending a pitcher down.

Nice to see the club going after guys who are deserving and performing at a high level. Obviously Marcano's star faded greatly last year, but the hitter I saw yesterday was definitely capable of hitting MLB pitching. And he's still just 22. Should be able to get starts as he can move around the field a great deal.

My son had a game under the lights tonight and we won 10-6. Down 6-5 heading into the last frame and we plated 5 and then 1-2-3 bottom half to seal it. Baseball is such a great sport! Coaching has been a really rewarding endeavor as well.

Otherwise I would have been at the Mike Burrows show.

Dude went 7 innings. 2 hits. 1 walks. 8 K's. 62 of 83 for strikes. From the sound of things Burrows was absolutely dominant. Promotion should be forthcoming soon. Can't imagine he'll be in Altoona for more than 1-2 starts, if that.

Peguero also hit a dinger and is now .329/.913. North of 150 AB's, doing elite things at 21 in AA. His big season has been a nice counter to the underwhelming Cruz season and K struggles of Gonzo.

If we really are promoting the likes of Marcano and Suwinski from AA, Burrows should be in Pittsburgh.

Hard to convince me he isn't our 2nd best pitching prospect behind Roansy.

I think sending a pitcher with less than 50 innings above A+ ball up to the bigs is probably a stretch. But I definitely agree that Burrows stock has risen tremendously given his outings after the biggest jump you see in minor league ball.

If he continues this trajectory, he'll definitely be in Pittsburgh at some point this season though with a real chance to open the following season on the ML roster, though I imagine his service time would be manipulated the way most everyone else is here.

I think the exciting possibility is that Priester (who is nearing a return) finds the next level and we'd have 2 more guys to follow Contreras that could make a significant impact in the rotation, which is needed more than anything IMO.
