And you know, this just confirms what I and NAO (mainly) *****ed about regarding Kang right up until he got hurt. Hurdle would have never started him in the playoffs if he were healthy. Never. Hurdle just loves him some defense......

I was bashing Hurdle's lineups in 2011 way before it was cool. I imagine for the sake of his job he couldn't play the lineup he really wanted:

1. Florimon-2nd
2. Harrison-3rd
3. Decker-cf
4. Mercer-ss
5. Rodriguez-1st
6. Sanchez-c
7. Snider-lf
8.Hernandez-rf
9. Locke-sp

Hurdle deserves to be fired when SRod goes 0-4 tonight and looks like crap. Why the **** don't you play ARam? It's absolutely mind boggling how many dumb decisions Hurdle makes

I also never even considered the possibility of Rodriguez starting. I figured Hurdle wasn't crazy or stupid enough to try that.

Underestimating the stupidity of Clint Hurdle is a mistake that I will no longer make.

SRod might not even see an AB in the game, if he does, I would imagine it's because they're hitting well.

It's one game (to rule them all) and there's 3 other 1Bs on the roster. I wouldn't be surprised to see this SRod starting as a little mind game.

Well that's a bit of an exaggeration.

I mean i get that gives you some very nice big pinch hitting options later in the game but if our pitcher does his part, we're not going to be hitting for him until AT LEAST the 7th anyway. And if you're pinch hitting for Rodriguez later in the game, that probably....no, no, wait, ABSOLUTELY means you're losing the game, at which point you should have probably put the better hitter in the game to begin with you drunk fat ****.

If SRod's, hypothetical, 0 for 4 is going to be huge, it's going to be because Cutch and Marte didn't show up or Cole is hittable.

Ideal? No. But not some insurmountable lineup decision. Let's wait and see how the teams come out before we start to find a tree and rope.

Well I figured they'd lose anyways so the lineup doesn't matter to me really.

But I just hope Rodriguez hits a grand slam or something.

Go Bucs.

Exactly. I'm hoping for the best, preparing for the worst. I'd love nothing more than Rodriguez have a massive hit that turns the tide or plates us a run or two. I'll gladly eat crow for a win tonight. Just not expecting ****.

So.. Cutch and Marte can't go combined 0-6 with 2 walks.. those 2 walks just happening to be in the same inning.. followed by a Pedro blast? And winning the game 3-1?

I think I figured out Hurdle's logic. What Hurdle is doing by putting SRod in is basically admitting they're not going to be getting any sort of run support out of their roster against Arrieta, so they'll just put the defensive guy in there to hope to draw against Arrieta. The Pirates win in a bullpen battle pretty easily. Going for a draw against Arrieta (who they're not going to score a run on) and then putting out your big guns to do damage to the bullpen may actually be a smart tactic.

If you want to make-up scenarios, sure. But what about those 6 empty ABs from Cutch and Marte, stranded Harrison and Polonco each time.

Sean might not even see an AB in this game. There's 3 other 1Bs on the roster and it's a one game, winner take all. You might see some really creative/weird/unorthodox **** when it comes to the Pirate's 1st base spot here.

Listen... If we are up in the 2nd and bases are loaded with 2 outs, I have faith that Hurdle will pull Sean Rodrigeuz and put a bat in that situation. If it's bottom of the 3rd and we aren't really getting anything going - leave him in for defense.

I firmly believe Hurdle has that gameplan for tonight. I firmly believe it's a smart gameplan if executed properly.

I don't know if we're going to win or lose but I will bet someone any amount of money that if Sean Rodriguez gets 4 at bats, we will win.

i think playing your better defensive 3B and sitting the worst fielding 1B in the league are both pretty defensible decisions in what looks like it should be a low scoring game

I have to agree.

0 for 3? Likely loss.
0 for 4? Not only did we get through the line-up 4 times, but we didn't need to pinch hit for him for offensive purposes late.

I'm far more comfortable hoping for an 0-for-4 than a 1-for-3.

The only issue I have with this is that there's an in-between option on the roster - Morse.

The only way I want Pedro in this game, regardless of pitching match-up, is as a bat off the bench. His defense is too big of a black hole to overcome in a game this important.
