OT: Raiders news, notes

Cleveland needs a quarterback themselves, could we draft Dart in the third round? Would he be drafted before
Not sure I’d spend a day 2 pick on a QB unless I’m prepared to play the kid multiple games. Seen too many of Trask, Mond, Mills, Willis, Corral, Ridder, go late rd 2 or rd 3 and amount to nothing.

It’s a deep RB draft so I’d take one in rd 3. Rest of the 3 day 1/2 picks I would take a defender, either Carter at DE or Graham at DT if they are there. Look for WR in round 2. Go DB or LB in rd 3.

Have a bunch of free agents in Moehrig, Hobbs, Spillane, Deablo on D that they may need to replace.

Poor timing for Brock having to go up against Daniels. Nabers too. Both put up huge seasons playing with replacement level QB's.

Speculation on free agent QB
Russ isn't the guy he used to be. Even a reunion with Pete won't change his loss of mobility. He's also never used the TE position in a way that would maximize Bowers. So, that should be a consideration. Russ is a smaller QB so finding lanes in the pocket is harder for him. He's more off-script when throwing to the TE in the middle.

His decision making, a dozen year starter was head scratching at key moments this season. He used to be on it in Seattle, like when he was hurt with the finger and Seattle was playing Pitt, when DK opted to try to run through the DB vs go out of bounds, it was Wilson on the sidelines employing his teammates to get on the ball to spike it for another play. But, with Pitt in the PO, he runs the ball late for 2 yards vs throw it away, thus eating up valuable clock. At that point in time, the time was more valuable than a couple of yards and a running clock.

See what new GM sees in the roster. WR, RB, QB need upgrades. DL (need more than Crosby/Wilkins), LB, and Secondary. Key free agents are Moehrig, Hobbs, Spillane, Deablo, Koonce on D. Most of the O is under contract though could end up with cuts if there isn't restructures to a couple of guys.

For me, at this point in time, I'd go DL at #6, with the assumption that both Ward and Sanders are off the board. Expect Hunter to go as well. Of the 2 possible players to go off the board I'd say Carter is most likely to be one of those guys. Then up in the air for the last one with Jax. Could see them go WR from ASU to help Lawrence. Not sure if OL is strong enough to warrant a 4th/5th OA pick. Can see CB Johnson go as well. So, based on that, I'm hoping for Graham DT from Michigan to upgrade the DL. Make the opposition use all 3 IOL vs Wilkins/Graham to free up Crosby with just the OT, unless the O decides to chip with TE or RB. But would then leave 6 guys protecting QB thus 4 options vs the remaining 7 Defenders.

Otherwise, I think I might lean Johnson, the big CB if Carter and Graham are both gone. Feels like LV missed out on multiple CB. Took Leatherwood over Newsome because of Arnette. Wilson over Gonzalez, Bowers over Mitchell, which was fine.

Rd 2, get the best talent. Rd 3, use one of the 2 thirds to upgrade RB spot. Deep class. The other 3rd, use on BPA. Raiders need a draft like 2024 where Powers-Johnson and Glaze both played solid/Well from day 2.

The way they're talking the idea is to compete right away, so that probably means a free agent QB? Do they go big for Darnold or do they think a Cousins or Rodgers could bring solid and unspectacular play and let the defense and running game be the stars? Pete said he wanted to be known for our defense and running game but of course you need a QB that can manage a game and make crucial throws, and when you have Bowers you have to utilize the talent as much as you can.

I think they kind of have to say something like that vs this will take years. See what they decide to do at QB. Don’t see them trading up.
Free agency. If cousins is cut that’s a cheap contract. Rodgers would pass on. Not the kind of guy you want when trying to build a culture.
Darnold only for a Baker type deal. Can’t pay him Tua/Love kind of money.

What would you expect the record to be next year, I know it's difficult to predict without knowing the roster at this point but what would you think they're aiming for realistically next year?

Honestly, the D held out well but O turned the ball over too often in close games. But D also has a bunch of free agents. Assuming they keep the ones they want with average QB play like what AOC gave them, likely 6-7 wins.
Changes based on QB. If Wilson gives them something on the DL. OC see how they use what they have. If Mayer is over his personal issues do they run 2 TE sets like half the time?

Too many questions at this point really.
