GDT: r1g5

Without an injury or a situation where we’re getting blown out 0-3 in a series or something comparable to that it’s been highly unlikely the whole time Nikishin was playing at all. They’re not going to sit someone when the have a chance to eliminate a team. That’s just dumb for any team.

Rod also is highly unlikely to agree with anyone’s assessment that any of the guys playing is playing bad enough to justify getting sat imo. I want to to see the kid play but I agree with him. Ghost leaning the wrong way on one play is not nearly the justification required and Nikishin isn’t taking over Burns’ RD first pair spot for his first game ever. In the playoffs. If it wasn’t for one goal in double overtime we’d be sweeping these guys. There’s zero reason to change the D. Janks should’ve never been out in the first place, but I think that was Rod leaning to treating a vet right with Roslovic. Jack had been here longer and had worked all season, between the two of them I think Rod felt obligated to give him the nod until he made some mistakes and they lost.

Like I said last GDT, the production truck appears to believe he won’t get a game this round. Which probably means he won’t get a game this playoffs, because I can’t imagine Rod putting him in the lineup when stakes are higher.
Or if someone gets dinged up. The Canes are playing a team that’s playing their #10 defenseman tonight.

That said, I still don't like that we iced the same lineup practically 36 hours after a 2OT game. Not that I don't think on paper that is our best lineup, I do think it is, but we have guys who have shown in the past that they completely wear down and fail with overuse in the playoffs.

Burns and Freddie could have really used the day off. It might have cost us Freddie's season, and we'll see if/when the wall comes for Burns, but as we saw last year, if it hits it gets ugly.

You could look at it that way, or you could look at it as playing your best lineup in game 4 and 5 ends the series in 5 games and EVERYONE, gets less games and more rest.
