No worse situation for Perrault than Laviolette coaching for his job to get a dog shit team to the 8 seed
They definitely did. The defense of the acquisitions were “at least they can skate” or “they are efficient at moving the puck” even if they have no offense to their game whatsoever

I’m just sick of targeting these zero offense dmen who are 6’2 or taller with 1st and 2nd rounders.

That’s when you take a flier on the high upside Hutson types , you can get a vanilla ass big stay at home guy anywhere
I’ll never forget Craig Button at the draft being like “if this guy was a few inches taller he’d be going 1st overall!”

I’ve been trying to avoid talking negatively about Fortescue on here because he is a 20 year old kid and a Ranger and so I hope he is a good NHL player.

I watched 80%+ of BC games the last 2 years, probably a higher % than the NYR, and am highly skeptical that he will ever be considered a plus player w the puck on his stick at the NHL level. @GoAwayPanarin makes a good counterpoint that he is good at skating the puck out of danger.

This isn’t even the right thread for Fortescue but when I see takes like that Colby Cohen take I just can’t roll my eyes far enough into the back of my head so end up saying something…will leave it at that for now.

And yes even if my take is correct (and again, I hope it isn’t) he could still be a good 2nd Rd pick and fit on this team somewhere.

Leonard signed with the Caps. More reason for Perreault to turn pro too.

On the subject of Perreault being some kind of savior---there are 8 games left. What is he going to save? Even if somehow we back into the playoffs---this season is already burnt. A benefit of him even getting in a couple/three games......maybe he'll get more---is that getting a taste of the NHL to take home over the summer should give him a better idea of what things he needs to work on and why. It can help. It would also kind of break him in with most of the players he'll be playing with next year and he can pick some of their brains over the summer too.

“Burning” his first year isn’t always bad for the team. Remember, he’ll only effectively have 2 years in the nhl by the time his next contract comes around. It’s also less time for him to earn big time money. From a cap perspective it can work out.

Yeah I've said for years that burning the first year of the ELC isn't nearly as big of a deal as people make it out to be. It can even be advantageous for the team if things break right.

Rempe and Brodzinski?... Let's be honest.

I don't make it a practice to always look for the worst case scenario.

I also don't think Laviolette, Housley etc. are going to be around next year. A new coach and a new coaching staff. Even perhaps a new general manager.

Pretty much when the Rangers have ever really underwhelmed expectations in the past there have been changes like that.

Gabe is getting an Armani endorsement and the best our number one overall pick can do it Chopt or Just Salad or whatever.
