I put it at 40%. There is a chance, but i think it will be better for him to stay another year. Defenseman usually need more time, let him play 24 minutes a game next year and be the go to guy on D.

He could probably be that in Hartford. No one is blocking him down there

Not really backing Colby Cohen's take because he is a yapper, but Fortescue's skillset does suit Fox.

Cohen was criticizing both Perreault and Leonard going in to the 3rd period last night. "Your best players have to be your best players."

He didn't say a single negative word about Fortescue even after Drew whiffed on a clearing attempt that almost led to a Denver goal in the first period. Good thing Drew's not on the Rangers yet. If that had happened and it did lead to a goal people on here would treat him like he's K'Andre.

That's a little crazy. Fort is not NHL ready, esp to play on the top pair in the NHL. But his development has been great.

Both should sign. Perreault can play some games this year. Fortescue can go to Hartford for whats left of the season. Then both can have a summer of training with the anticipation that they will at least have a shot to make the team out of camp next year. Hopefully with a coach willing to give them a real chance.

I'd be fine if Fort wants to make the jump, but at the same time I won't be mad if he doesn't. Maybe wants to work on his offensive game a bit more before making the jump. I noticed he was shooting the puck a ton more this season. Didn't really get any PP time this season, he would next year.

My preference would be for him to play in the AHL next year. I'm not sure that another year at BC will be super productive for him. He has played 2 years already, getting significant minutes for a highly competitive team. He has also been a key part of the defense on two straight gold-winning WJC teams. Next year, BC will probably have a significant drop off, and there are no more WJCs in his future. I think it's time for him to take the next step.

If he decides to go back to BC, that's okay. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing for him. But I think he will be better served by moving on. Let him spend the whole year in the AHL to better prepare him for the NHL. He's probably going to need AHL time in any case, and I think he's ready to make the move.

Fortescue fitting right in as Fox’s partner is one of the more hilarious takes I have seen.
Somehow, the entire hockey world has come to the conclusion that Fox's ideal partner is a #5 with no offense at all (and I'm not necessarily saying that this is what Fortescue will be forever, so don't start with me).

Kreider got played by a different coach.

Lavi has done nothing but overplay vets this year and has looked for every excuse to do so.

He was this way in Washington too.
Same coach that is in a desperation mode that already included moving Othmann (recently) and Cuylle in top-6, and also Berard in the line-up? I get that it's not his MO but this is a desperate situation and involves desperate measures (by his standards). Definitely not going to die on this hill but it definitely seem plausible.

Fortescue has extremely limited puck ability beyond simple 10 ft outlet passes, so to that extent he would be a natural fit.

He’s can skate it end to end pretty well though so he isn’t completely inept in transition.

As far as defense first defensemen go I’m okay with guys like him. He’ll satisfy the tuffness crowd because he hits and can be pretty nasty while actually being good at defense.

It makes sense if the idea is balance and NYR have another top pairing guy on the 2nd pair. Not unlike the Lightning with Hedman as 1A and McDonagh as a 1B for their dynasty years.

But what we have is

5-1
4-4
6-5

So it really makes no sense at all.

thats what we heard about Borgen and Soucy.

Again, NYR always 20 years behind the times.

Lavi is notorious for leaning on his vets. They all are, but Lavi more than most.

The more desperate it gets, the more he'll do that imo.

Othmann and Berard just barely cracked 10 minutes in a blowout.

If the Rangers were clearly out of it, I would be fine with him playing out the string for him to get reps. I don’t trust Laviolette to use him well and with the locker room issues, I don’t think it’s the best situation for Perrault to play right now.

Literally no one said this about either of them.

I hate useless oaf defensemen more than anyone. Fortescue isn’t one of them.
They definitely did. The defense of the acquisitions were “at least they can skate” or “they are efficient at moving the puck” even if they have no offense to their game whatsoever

I’m just sick of targeting these zero offense dmen who are 6’2 or taller with 1st and 2nd rounders.

That’s when you take a flier on the high upside Hutson types , you can get a vanilla ass big stay at home guy anywhere

I wouldn't call E.J. Emery zero offense. He had one assist this year.
