There is nothing like a points per imaginary 82 games.

He ha an average of 60+ points per season and nothing else counts.
Pace and what could/would be, are no real statistics, otherwise i would claim in those imaginary games he would score 4 own goals per game.

Also not counting a streak is funny to me, since he only had a single PPG+ season with 92 points which was outstanding and never repeated.
The stats over the last 3 years are also super inflated since every team in Pacific but Edmonton and Vegas is on AHL level

Going strictly by numbers per season, not including the current, Kopitar has 9 seasons below 70 points and 9 seasons equal to or above 90 points. And for the below level that includes his rookie year plus the lockout & covid year where he was easily trending 70+ points, which would flip it to 11 seasons of 70+ and 7 seasons < 70.

I mean honestly I never heard of a '60 point player' who has 1256 career NHL points and counting.

If Dobson is moved a deal around Clarke would make sense imo. Byfield could be a 2nd piece but I think NYI would need to add a good amount.

Fit wise I think Buffalo makes alot of sense. Kings fans will hate it but I think Cozens style of play really fits the kings identity and a deal around those 2 could be something LA looks at and thinks Cozens would fit in better for their team. Byram is another notable fit for LA

In reality PPG is Point Per Game

Now you explain me how 76 points in 82 games is PPG.

Do you have it the other way around? 82 games per 76 points?
This would be GPP and a really weird statistic.

Also the 60pt pace is nothing nothing to highlight.
It is the opposite, if you ask for leagues top money but score half the points of $6 mill players

He is going in because he is the first Slovenian impact player, which is a major accomplishment, his incredible longevity of consistent, very good hockey, and the major contribution to two Cups. He is NOT going in based on being a superlative offensive player or a catalyst. This is not a "star" - he is habitually labeled as underrated because he simply never qualified for those things people "rate".

And that's all nonsense anyway. Any team would have been better off for having him, but there is a laundry list of issues he has presented that have done actual harm to the team.

Its all well and good to play matchup hockey with the likes of Thornton, Sedin and Getzlaf, but you simply do not need to err on the side of defense when you are up against Langkows, Hanzals, Backes' and the like. The Kings have long suffered from offensive ineptitude because their best offensive player wouldn't push the pace or alter his game at all when they needed offense. Anze has NEVER adapted his game to the changing style of the sport, he has willingly stayed in 3rd gear.

No opposition has ever had to change their tactics to face Kopitar because they knew that the Kings best offensive weapon was going to focus on defense. It has continually allowed teams to use their shutdown lines and pairs against the Kings secondary offensive units and it just squashed them for years.

All those seasons of poor playoff matchups, low seedings without home ice, all that could have been avoided if Kopitar pushed for 90 points instead of accepting high 60s and saw wven slightly better regular season success. He had the ability and chose not to use it. He cheated for defense over offense. Sure, it's more noble, but its still cheating an aspect of the game that the Kings were so poor at for soon long. He has been the best player on a niche team for a long time, got comfortable, and never gave more when needed.

His famous quote is "when everyone is good, no one has to be great", which is fantastic when you have Williams Richards, Carter, Brown and Gaborik. But when everyone isn't good, and you DO need your best to be great to succeed, Anze never once stepped up. He stayed at the same, consistently very good, solid level.

He AND the team would have been better off if he tried harder and burned out at 35 instead of holding back and still being a middle of the pack first line center for this long.

Matchup hockey against the like of Thornton, Sedin, and Getzlaf while producing at a .8-.9 PPG rate doesn’t put you in the “HHOF of longevity and nationality”, It makes you a better player, and more valuable piece than any of those three players ever could hope to be. Ask Vancouver how much higher seeding they would trade for playoff success.

Has Kopitar ever drove the ship for playoff success single handedly? Absolutely not, but there isn’t a single player in NHL history who has. Hockey is a team sport, and good teams have good supporting cast.

The only prime centers that are a clear cut above Anze in drive & production are truly generational talents. Kings fans are going to probably go the rest of their lives and never have a center half as good as Kopi.

I’m also saying this as a guy who completely supported the “Trade Kopi in 2015” movement, but not for nearly the same reasoning as most.

If he fails to take the next step and is still inconsistent next year at this time then the rumors should begin.

Bergeron made a career of it as well. Even shut down Malkin/Crosby.

Highly underrated, he and Kopitar head to head with other elite centers.
