Quinton Byfield disgusting goal

Fair enough.

TBH, QB has ZERO chance of making 2026. Maybe 2028. Again, Canada is LOADED up front.

Come join us in the International Thread - where this is discussed. It's a good group of posters.
Canada just had Sam Bennett make the team, I think Byfield can make it if he keeps improving the way he has been.

For all the focus on holding the stick, people are forgetting its a bang bang play in real time, and the only time you get holding the stick calls, is when the player whose stick is being held, is actually, trying to play the puck, otherwise, you would get holding the stick calls every time you dig a stick out of your stomach area.....

If defenders are allowed to make physical contact on players without the puck, including cross checking in the back, etc, on a regular basis then I don’t see any issue with this play. Nothing pretty about this goal. Just a lot of fight and willpower from Byfield. It’s nice to see the guys taking punishment in front of the net get away with one every once in a while.

This is easily my GOTY

I know I'm in the minority but this has no business in any GOTY talk. Was it cool to see? Yea but it would have been 1000x times cooler and guaranteed GOTY had he not blatantly held on to Wright's stick.

Maybe for an encore he can sit on the goalie, grab the puck with his hand and casually toss it behind his back into the net.

Tell me how hard Wright was trying to A. get his stick back, and B. make a play.....I can wait.

Nice but tainted by the clear missed penalty. If he did a swim move or something instead of holding the stick to get himself free, it would have been goty material.

He was trying to draw a penalty. It was a smart play had the refs done their job.

Didn't have to wait long, did you fella?

So, by not trying to make a play, he was trying to draw a penalty?

Jesus christ.....if that's the case, why not just let go of the stick?

Tell me the last holding the stick penalty you saw, where the players stick who was being held, did nothing to engage and try to make a play

Bennett and QB are very different players. Bennett is nasty and was there to battle / cover Brady T. QB is not nasty.

I would LOVE to see QB make the team so... Keep progressing and prove me wrong.

Let’s be real, the stick hold had no effect on the play, wright lost the check before Byfield was even out of the circle. He didn’t even know what happened until the puck was in the net, Q had already established position and was keeping the stick off him. Theyll let that go every time. Just made it look cooler.

He looked like some stage 2 boss from a Genesis beat-em-up wielding those two sticks.

Cool goal, illegal goal, people need to chill about Byfield and being part of team Canada. Dude has less than 50 points. He’s a good young player.

Someone makes a play and then the hyperbole comes out.

Why?

I doubt he will make it. Canada is LOADED up front.

Totally agree and QB has always had the ability to wow without putting it all together consistently. There’s no way he should be in the conversation on April, 2025. And with the way the pool is loaded and sometimes the powers that be can be slowly to react and recognize who is currently playing at an elite level - even a strong start next fall may not be enough to get him in the conversation.

All that said, there’s more than a hint that this version of QB is a different beast. And it would not shock me if on April, 2026, we are seeing threads here much like we currently are for Thomas and Suzuki, as one of the breakthrough stars of the season.

A strong playoff could help him immensely but everyone is just assuming the oilers will eliminate them again
