Back to Byfield. I hope they can somehow get him better wingers than AA and Brown. No cohesion at all or chemistry. Maybe that rumor about Pavel Zacha being a target wouldn't be a bad idea.
He would add size and be a good 3rd LW. I think he stil has some upside. Would be nice to move AI to 3rd line to help this line....but don't see that happening.

They should certainly get QB on PP2.

I think ultimately you're right, but look at Danault. You can stick anyone with that guy and they will do well. I think once Byfield grows into his role and learns to use his gifts more effectively, it will be a similar situation.

Put Danault between AA and Brown with 10 minutes of ice time and no pp time and see how he does. Do it for Kopitar also and see how he does.

I agree with you. But Byfield is also not on the level of Kopitar/Danault yet. You put him on either of those two lines and he won't be as effective right now.

The numbers don't lie when AA was paired with Danault earlier this season his possession numbers dropped by 10% to just above 50%. Danault normally is operating at 60% which is what you see now.

Kopitar's worst possession numbers also is when he was paired with Brown this season. His drop wasn't is precipitous as Danault being saddled with AA, but it was 5+ percent.

I know it sounds crazy when you think that the worst forwards on the team are on Byfield's line, but make a compelling argument that those two guys are better than any winger on the first or second lines or are more effective than Arty or Pepe. In my opinion they are not.

Yea hes not on the level now but its a guy they picked at number 2 overall after the Kings were playing some really bad hockey for some seasons. Youd think they put him in the best position possible not the worst.

It is what it is right now. Blake is going to have to trade some of the forwards away or lose them when the contract expires. If they call up a guy like Vilardi right now, who are they going to send down? Not AA or Brown.

I would think Brown can be a healthy scratch for some games while they see if anyone is ready to contribute and they should think about Athanasiou and where he stands with the team long term. Hes good depth for playoffs but if they arent signing him then think about moving him.

Todd would never have the balls to make Brown a healthy scratch.

Agree - I think that 3rd line is hosed for awhile. 1st/2nd/4th lines are pretty solidified. Unless they run into injuries/covid issues.

Which one of his last couple of seasons were bad? The one where he put up 82pts in 45gp as a 17yr old? 61 in 64 as a rookie 16yr old? The AHL season where he put up a top 20 performance for 18yr olds?

He's young, big bodied, will need time to build his game, and has all the skill in the world.. but he definitely hasn't had bad seasons.

I agree. Never said he was bad. I think you misread it. I said the LA Kings were bad and tanked to get him. Fixed it maybe it makes more sense. Its hard to type on my phone for this website cause the page refreshes constantly and I lose everything I type!
Anyways Im high on him and would love it if they started taking the kid gloves off and treated him as if he were to take the reigns starting next season. Just meant hes not as polished as Danault at the moment so hes behind him. And it seems like the organization will ride Kopitar as the #1 until hes in a wheelchair so hes behind him also.
Its unfortunate for Turcotte really is the truth.

That's fair.. the way you worded the original message had it sounding like Byfield was generously taken at 2 after some bad seasons in junior. I'd definitely like to see him with some better linemates that compliment his strengths.

I keep hoping for a goal (or assist) when I check out the stats. I am always disappointed. :(

How is he playing?

this is game 9 for him this season, game 15 overall . and when he got healthy last year in the A it took about 7-10 days to get rolling and then he played like he did tonight and earned a callup so you know he did welll, it seems like he needs a few games to get timing right and then he shows signs of being that guy we have been waiting for , its just it seems like we have been watching such bad heartless hockey for years know our patience has worn thin, he has everything we were told and waiting for him is killing some . IMHO we have two guys QB and Turc who can be easily compared to others drafted around them like zegras with his trick shots and stutzele "sp" who play a different style but have produce some points but the guys we have will have more cups when all is said and done , but it will be a slower trajectory

He looks great to be honest. It is one of the few times where a prospect hasn't had the points but watching him play makes me less nervous. He definitely has "it". As he gets stronger, more confident, more ice time, and wingers that can finish and get the puck back to him, we are going to see more and more of what makes QB special. I am really happy we got him in the draft. Laf is definitely sounding alarm bells right now and Stutzle is flashy but not nearly as dynamic and complete Byfield. The kid has a real chance of being the complete package.
