The reality is, the brothers are going to end up together. No doubt NJ would love to get it done now as opposed to 6 years from now.

Quinn Hughes is the best D man to ever play for the Canucks and hasn’t had a partner in years. Likely playing with Hamilton he would become even better.

There’s an extreme premium because for the move, based on Hughes elite #1 status.

To NJ:

Hughes
McDonough (top unsigned College prospect)
Rathbone (needs a change of scenery)

To Canucks:
Nemec
MUKHAMADULLIN
Nolan Foote
1st

Keep in mind, Canucks hate picks do likely they prefer a player to a pick.

Nemec has a ton of value and looks NHL ready. Neither him or Muk will ever be as good as Hughes. The deal puts NJ over the top and gives Vancouver a good start to their rebuild. They should have a top pairing for years to come.

Devils are using LTIR to be cap compliant. Canucks would need to take cap back. Also Devils GM likes taller DMen with reach. Look at who he has brought in.

Why are they definitely going to end up together? There are tons of brother trios in the NHL, and rarely do they ever play together on the same team, especially when they are stars commanding high salaries, and especially in the primes of their careers. For every example you could provide, there are countless scenarios going the other way.

And, I don’t even know why NJD would want to trade a boat load to acquire Q Hughes, he may even be redundant when L Hughes comes in (or the other way around). Believe it or not, just because the Canucks were stupid and acquired OEL when they already had a No 1 offensive LHD, not all teams are looking to screw up their salary structure and recreate that mistake.

If I’m NJD, I pass on Q Hughes, at least until I see what I have in L Hughes.

Devils would ask for Truscott not McDonough given he is Luke Hughes D partner.

I don't see New Jersey as an ideal "change of scenery" for Rathbone with Hughes, Hughes, and Siegenthaler seemingly better long term options at LD

Also, I think there's a deal to be made without the Devils having to include Nemec

Something like...

Devils <-- Hughes, Kuzmenko

Canucks <-- '23 1st, Holtz, Foote, Mukhamadullin, Bahl, with Johnsson and Tatar included for cap purposes

I just don't see Quinn Hughes to NJ. If they had him his ideal partner would be Nemec. They won't trade that cost controlled asset either.

Maybe if Vancouver took Holtz and Severson vs trying for Nemec.

Holtz
1st
Severson (either Vancouver signs him or trades him)
Johnssson (cap dump)

Hughes

I don't really see why New Jersey would be that seriously interested in what amounts to a PR stunt. But i also really don't like that return for Hughes for the Canucks. If they were to deal him (which i'm okay with), it'd have to be something a lot more convincing that that.

I don't really believe Quin Hughes is the sort of defenceman you can build a perennial contender around as your #1D...but that doesn't mean i want to give him away for a "maybe" and a few other less promising "maybe" pieces.

Here to point out that the OP is a Canucks fan and it wasn't a Devils fan that started a Q. Hughes to NJ thread.

New Jersey can only add one more big price player & Hughes is the last thing we need. We desperately need a top 6 power forward & acquiring Hughes would handicap us from making any future moves. Defense is our strongest position. If NJ is doing anything it's going for a player like Timo Meier.

When has the brothers thing really worked?
The neidermeyers? The sedins but they twins who played their whole lives together

Most times. Schen. Staal etc just a brief fad then move on. Not worth gutting a team over

Q. Hughes/Nemec would be mobile but one the softest D pair ever.

A better trade for both teams is probably without Hughes. Jersey needs a top 6 player, Canucks need futures. Probably something like this:

To New Jersey: Brock Boeser, Lockhart, 2025 6th round pick

To Vancouver: 2023 1st, 2024 3rd, Tatar

I just don't see it happening. Hughes is a small dynamic offensive defenseman that can't play defense and needs a top 4 stay at home partner to balance. This is not the type of defenseman you got bananas for. The owner and the fanbase cherishes him but on the open market, I don't think anyone thinks he's a franchise defenseman worth the deal that Rutherford and Alvin will need to pull the trigger.

Remove the first and I think it’s close.

I don’t think anyone in this thread is fully prepared to accept how dominant Quinn + Jack Hughes would be together. Let alone Luke.

We sincerely can’t allow it, as a league.

There is literally no guarantee at all they will be dominate together anymore than Hughes and Peterson. This isnt a Sedin dynamic where they played together their entire lives and could read each other at any time. They are two completely different players
