If you’re a one man team then you don’t really have a good team so they deserve to be in trouble

not to say our blueline wasn’t terribly constructed, but tbf we have two top pair guys and they are both out.

i remember bitd i thought the 2001 avs had a top heavy blueline (blake - bourque - foote, then klemm - de vries - skoula), and later the 2007 ducks (pronger - niedermayer - beauchemin, then o’donnell and two guys named kent huskins and joe dipenta) but ours is something else.

norris winner and a high level #2 on the first pair

a 4/5 and a 5/6 on the second pair (soucy and myers, respectively)

and rotating 6 at bests but probably actually 7s and 8s on the third pair (juulsen, brannstrom, desharnais, forbort)

now subtract that first pair and...

Canucks are Running THIS defense for a Month.

Forbort - Myers
Soucy - Juulsen
Brännström - Desharnais

Looks like a good situation for a shrewd GM to weasel an unprotected first out of a desperate team and land a top 5 pick.
This will be a true test of the Canucks management.

Trading futures to try to salvage this season would be shortsighted.

Now that Hughes is out indefinitely, Hronek out long term and Pettersson out as well, they really need to see the writing on the wall and hold onto all of their futures.

If anything they should consider being sellers at the deadline if they find themselves outside of a playoff spot.

Blowing 3 goal leads in each of their last two games really goes to show just how awful their defense is without Hughes and Hronek.

If they could get someone with term like Seth Jones and make the cap work, it wouldn’t really be trading a future. They need secondary defensive depth badly.

It’s not just because of injury now, they need a deeper blueline for the playoffs and injury that could happen later. This is one of the worst blue lines I remember in recent history.

I know people want to talk about next man up etc... But Quinn Hughes is the closest thing to LeBron James I've seen in the NHL, both get detracted for their "killer instinct" or lack of relentless aggressive highlight reel scoring, but in terms of controlling the game and ball/puck they are unmatched. People like to rag on LeBrons teams for playing "Bron Ball", but this year you can definitely call the Canucks style as Quinn Puck...

Many of those LeBron teams are lottery tier without him, let's see how the Canucks can survive. In the long run, this is probably a good thing, team got way too reliant on Quinn having a Hart level season just to survive.

Wildcard race could heat up. Only team I see doing it are Utah though. FTR.. Calgary is so much better than I expected. Good for them.

POS Nick Cousins ran him in the Ottawa game. Was shaking out his hand after but it might be a shoulder stinger. Was at the game and saw it in front of me. Timeline seems about right as well as him playing after thinking he could play through it vs a hand that was speculated
I hate cousins. He’s been useful player but absolute idiot.
