Question about your loyalty to the Leafs

I think the only way I wouldn't cheer for the leafs is if I had a son playing for a different NHL team.

Haha, pretty much this.

It's bad, but I'd still cheer for the Leafs, even if I had a kid playing for Carolina or something... It'd probably give my kid hell about being a Hurricane.

You gotta be father first, Leafs fan second. I'd still cheer on the Leafs for every game they played against every other team, but if I had a kid playing against them, I'd be pretty excited to see him tear them to shreds. The fact that they're my team would make make me want to see him do that much better, in my opinion.

There is a compromise.

Leafs win 5-3

Your kid gets a hat trick for the other team.

Everybody wins...except the other team. ;)

well, if I live in a new place for 10 years or something, I guess I'll eventually begin to cheer for them. however, the only reason is Ontario and even Canada is not my native land. I still cheer for my home town team, but it's very far away from any NHL :)

My guess would be that I am the oldest " old fogey " on this board..I lived most of my life on the East Coast where I was a Leaf fan. I detested the Canucks and 8 years ago I moved out West to BC..Guess what ? I still detest the Canucks and will forever be a Leaf fan..BTW I saw or listened to all the cup wins in the sixties. I would love to see one more.

I am and always have been a Leaf fan. However, in order to have a rooting interest in the playoffs I always cheer for whichever Canadian team/teams are left. However, this year I may make an exception for Van. :D

No way in hell. I bleed blue and white. I've been a fan since 11 yrs old thanks to my dad... I'm his favourite daughter since we bond a lot when it comes to sports. I'm 25 now. Also I was born in Toronto. I beleaf they will win a cup before I die since they finally seem to be going onto the right direction :)

The dream would be my kid playing FOR the Leafs. Kind of like Morgan Rielly's dad.

This question is primarily directed to fans of the Leafs who live in the Toronto area. Let's say you had to move to a different city that has an NHL team, permanently, would you still cheer for the Leafs? Or would you switch allegiances immediately to your new home town's team? Personally, I would still cheer for the Leafs through and through under this scenario. I wasn't even born in the GTA or Canada for that matter. Leafs are my team for life, that's it.

I moved out to Edmonton over a year ago, been a die hard Leaf fan my entire life. This city will never change me although the people here drive me nuts all their vehicles done up with Oilers stuff, the hats, shirts, jerseys its EVERYWHERE. People rag on me all the time cause im repping the Leafs stuff and the guys at work throw Leafs comments in all the time and throw stuff on my FB chirping the Leafs but you know it's all in good fun!

But to answer your question hell no haha never in my life would I cheer against my boys.

If I ever lived outside the G.T.A. and the leafs made the finals I seriously think I'd come back for them no matter what.

Like if I didn't have a good enough job that they'd just let me go I'd quit over it. No way am I missing the win.

always have, and always will cheer for the leafs, no matter if i moved or had a relative playing for another team.
blue blood here, leafs all the way

Exactly, my kid could pull an Eric Staal, but I think the Leafs would still have to win. Of course I have no kids at the moment so it's probably difficult to understand fatherhood...

Born in Montreal :p:, live in Ottawa :( , Leafs fan for life :handclap:!!!

for the Leafs, I wouldn't be able to change. i can't care about anyone else in hockey.

a contending NBA team in a new city could definitely lure me away from the Raptors.

Dealt with the team trading for old vets and losing, dealt with the down years of not making playoffs, I've been a fan almost 30 yrs. I'm a leaf fan no matter what.

I've been programmed by the CBC. HNIC growing up, they're just a part of my consciousness. I have no memory of a decision or choice, I just am.
