Possibly. There're guys who are good players in the NHL who might not even make it.

I think you could argue Matthews is better than a lot of good NHLers at this point. Looks better than Larkin to me. Foligno as well.

I think he'll be named to the roster.

Well deserved win.

I agree, that offside goal was so good.

This is the biggest failure I have ever seen from a Czech team. Doesn't matter they won the group anymore, they are now the losers who lost against pretty weak US team. Unlike the last two years I thought we are the clear favorites and it should be a relatively easy match for once.

Also, for the love of god, get a coach for PP. We had like 5 or 6 powerplays and we didn't even have some good chance...

Huge, HUGE dissapointment.

Losing from a goal out of offside is pretty sad, but well yeah, we should've score more goals. I'm actually pretty satisfied with Czechs play. Their performace was significantly better than what I would expect from the lineup.

I argued with some Czech posters that they should have lost the last group-stage game in regulation on purpose to meet the Germans instead, they told me they shouldn´t, you Czech guys still think that?...

GG USA kudos Auston you still keep the draft interesting ;)

Yeah I still think that. This game was all about Kinkaid today.. can't guess how would German goalie do but it doesn't matter. You can't win the game with one goal in most cases. We didn't score from the game, we go home, nothing wrong about that at all. Yes, we would probably beat the Germany but I ain't even mad after this mediocre performance. **** happens.

Time to bring in some NHL ringers for the game against Canada.

(Does Sweden really stand any chance against them?)

Tough to say. I didn't think they would get beat 4-0 by Finland but they did. You have to respect every opponent in this tournament and in a knock out game anything can happen.

Quite frankly, I have never seen such a pathetic czech PP.

But is he better than other u23 NA centers currently?

Will say I'm surprised. Didn't think the US could make it past the Czechs. Close game the whole way. It wasn't from lack of chances though since both teams had at least 5 powerplays.

Kind of funny that most of the goals weren't of the normal type. A penalty shot, an offside goal, and the shootout winner.

Props to Matthews, did come through for the US when they needed it. Credit to the Czechs. They could have come out of this one with the win.

It wasnt me but yes, I still believe losing on purpose is absolute horse crap, if thats what you are asking.
I respect that a ton, but I still couldn't help thinking if some are going to wonder.

Congratulations to the US.

Looking forward to next year when my opinion on poor display of our play will be called "pretty weird" again.

This is pretty pathetic attempt, how is it related to todays game? You said we were pretty uninspiring / bad in past years, which is not true, 2 semifinals in a row is success for our current hockey. This game could go either way.

Hyperbole, or not. Get over it. Really not sure why you need come up with it now.

Hot goalie... happens. Have to give credit to Kinkaid, he was great. PP was disgusting, absolutely terrible. 5/6 PPs, nothing from it.. Congrats US, Matthews is phenomenal player.

Exactly, I think you guys are doing really well, taking current conditions into consideration. 2 semis in row is a great result. You missed semis 3 times in a row during 2007-2009, so I really don't know why all this hate now. However, one thing that would really piss me off is that I am almost 100% sure you would have advanced if you had played vs Germany. But your team definitely deserves respect for not throwing the game vs Switzerland.

wat? usa is not kind of team to be afraid of, they lost to germany for christ's sake

In hindsight it's probably true, but before this game I would have taken USA over Germany. Germans looked solid in the group, while US looked bad, especially their goaltending. Kinkaid happened to get good at the right time.

I only saw the last half of the game but Czechs didn't do much to stand in the way of the american goalie. In todays game you can't expect to win if you don't dare go to the net ...

I was also shocked to see a czech player slow down instead of helping his partner in the defence when two americans were rushing to the net ...

USA looked like they wanted the win, I don't know what the Czechs did.

American goal from the offside.. well, doesn't matter now..
Canada is already looking forward to the final

True...but USA had a great scoring chance negated by what look like an incorrect offside call...

On a different note...what's with Kinkaid and another US player firing the puck high off the glass, when they were already on the PK? Talk about flirting with disaster :amazed:

This was my first game I caught all tournament so I'm way behind but wow did the U.S. team look out of sync. What is up with the roster by the way? They sent no one of note outside of Matthews and Larkin. Kinkaid looked great but I don't expect him to continue on that level, I hope I'm wrong but they are going to get smashed vs Canada.

Only in the semis because they Czechs decided to take the game off.

I've never felt so mehhh after seeing a team I'm rooting for win.

Especially with all the "relegation" statements. It wasn't pretty but i'll take it.

I said on various posts ( paraphrasing ) that medal round and even the GMG looked doable, after US loss to Germany, based on the fact that at first it looked ( According to Hoyle ) that the earliest Yanks could play Russia or Canada would be Gold Medal game ...

I also said repeatedly ( again paraphrasing ) that with better goaltending ( check ) and by avoiding foolish/needless penalties ( no check ) I felt USA was quite capable of beating this ' decidedly mediocre' Czech squad

Completely deserved US win. This game smelled of a big choke from start. Too many missed opportunities.

Well, I was quite surprised by the performance of this team in WHC and for sure I wished them all the best, I watched just second half of the game, but there were again same signs of contrats between our players and NA guys. Skating, aggresivity, intensity. We didnt create almost any clear chance in third compare to US guys. And its not just because we coudnt handle "favourite" position. Because it happens again and again and again. Yes, its disappointment, but same happened last year, in Sochi and everytime in all junior categories. So we can pretend how surprising it was, however it was not, especially when you watched the game.

I might still live in a time 15 years ago or I might just didnt accept the fact that our junior program is obviously targeted to pick one medal in10 years, because thats now "realistic", as all the guys from Reichel to Lener are saying. You said last two 4th places is success. Yes, quite a good result. But why we talking about success when, in a game, most of our guys are lacking individual skills compare to NA guys? Sorry, but this is just way to hell....Its second time we lost to a team with several guys from universities. Why are we still looking for excuses?

Not sure if it makes you feel any better, but I would give anything for our hockey to be on the same level as yours currently is

I am not making any excuses. We deserved to lose this game due to manner in which we approached this game.
Sure, there is a big difference in skating, skills, creativity... between their young players from universities/AHL and some of our europeans. They are basically complete players at the age of ~20 and they were developed in one of the best junior system. Players like Larkin, Matthews will make you look dumb sometimes, no wonder. But it is what it is for quite some time now, Canada, USA, Sweden, Russia and now even Finland are on different level in juniors compared to us. I don't think that it will change somehow soon but hopefully I am wrong.

I am talking about the success on senior level and quite frankly, if we advance to semifinal, then we have to consider as success no matter what happens after. Let's be realistic. Especially with teams like this. Sure, the way we produce young players is related to WHC and all other senior tournaments but it is on entirely different discussion.
