GDT: Quarterfinal - May 17 - USA vs Czech Republic

I am not very optimistic regarding this game. Czech team has proven that we can put up a decent fight and play our hearts out (win against Russia), but we played not very competitive last three games which might only hurt our concentration and the defense was nowhere to be found in the game against Austria.

I would say, if everything works out - the defense will have their day and gives their all and Plekanec will put up a decent defensive fight like he did against Russia and someone scores, we will probably take this one.

But I worry that it will go the other way around. DDD line gets shut down because the us defense will be on their back for the whole time, Cervenka will miss the empty net yet again, kids (Necas and Chytil) will shit their pants, defense won't show up and we are screwed and it will be a sad loss to end a nice tourney...

Not sure which scenario has better odds to happen and I would be very glad if it's just my inner pessimist speaking.

That said, I will cheer for my team 100% and hope for the first scenario to happen. LET'S GO CZECH REPUBLIC.
 
Well this could go either way, but the Czech defense gives me nightmares ... it's tough to imagine guys like Kane, Gaudreu or Larkin flying in on the rush, it might get ugly. But then again our guys withstood the Russians so they definitely have a chance. In terms of offense i'm pretty confident the Czechs can score some. I just hope it's gonna be entertaining.

Dream scenario - Radko scores a hattrick as the Czechs win 4:2 :naughty:

This will be a 1 goal game... Most the Czech games were one goal games including against Russia, Sweden, Swiss and Slovakia. Czechs will give their all and we will see if they can cause the upset. Beat states at world cup and at last Olympics as well. It is possible. Hope Rittich starts and our first 3 Centres are Krejci, Faksa and Plekanec... Pastrnk will need to have a monster game. Cervenka is due for a goal. Going to be nerve racking
 
Francouz is playing today. Polášek as 7th D, Krejčík stratched. Rest is like was in last game.
 
We got robbed on the Jaskin high stick... should've been a 4 minute penalty!

Kane scored a beauty goal against Polasek who is our 6/7 defender. One question.. how much time do you think Pastrnak/Krejci will get against the 6/7 defender of the US? f***en line match against Kane's line!

I heard on CT24 that Francouz has a 14-3 record (something like that) in big games... that is true except almost all of the 14 wins are against lower seeded nations (or the Olympic's with no NHLers). I'd love to see his record at the World Championship's against the Big 5 nations? I'm guessing 0-3? Having your starter beat Austria and the like and claiming he has good stats and a strong win/loss record is f***en ridiculous!
 
This is going perfect is you are the States... Francouz shouldn't hvae started... his last 3 major games were all losses

Last year's quarters - 3 against Russia
Olympic Semi - 3 AGainst
Olympic Bronze - 6 against Canada (I'm sure some were empty net so let's call it 4)
Today against USA - 2 against in first 10 minutes

Medals won = 0

Why are we so loyal? I get he is a great Euro goalie but he gets lit up against NHL players.

Also, Jandac needs to line match those top 2 lines and shut them down...
 
Scary beginning. Czech defense exposed badly, Francouz doesn't show is best performance. It will be difficult to come back.
