He is very good. The problem is that Marjamäki played him as a center.

Granlund is a mediocre center, and a very good winger.
We will be seeing him again in the national team no doubt. I don't think he is worth anything anymore, but guess we will see next time he is on the roster. Slapping that C on him when he had no leadership ever before was awful also.

We did deserve to lose this game with that kind of performance.

Also Swiss played well.
Didn't see the game as I was watching Swe-Lat, but I'm sorry about the result. You didn't deserve to loose this game.

However, I had a feeling you wouldn't turn it around when down two goals. Marjamaki is completely useless. Has to be the worst coach in the history of hockey. He just stands there looking like a fool. No action taken whatsoever, despite having such a good team.

That was basically the exact same game as Denmark/Germany games. Score 1st, start playing like dogshit and then make a push in the 3rd.

Can't say it was too surprising but it's disappointing they couldn't reverse the trend in a do or die game.

Oh well, at least they can crush one of the big hockey countries in the next game.. oh wait

He scored 67 points in NHL this season. He's better than almost anybody that Finland has.

Only Aho, Laine, Rantanen are better.

I don't think anyone can honestly criticize Aho's performance. It's not his fault that others cannot finish from the plays that he constantly made.

Granlund was captain, Rantanen & Aho wore As. This team was so called bipolar exactly because our top six was packed with boys who don't need a razor. You honestly think guys like Mikko Koivu would have faltered no matter who was coaching the team.

Good to know that our Swedish brothers can see this exactly how it is. What a pity of wasting such a talented young team with such a useless moron of a coach. Really sad for Aho, Rantanen, Granlund, Nutivaara, Heiskanen and most of the other guys. :(

The Swiss deserved this win but I wonder why the Finns stopped playing ice hockey in the second period. Did they think they can repose on the 1-0 lead or what?
Säteri was beside Nutivaraa the best Finn this evening in my opinion.

I would very easily take Barkov, Haula and even M.Koivu over him if given a choice.

Even if they don't have the same point amount - they're much more complete players and have some balls.

I am so happy we won this game. Proud how the boys played for 60 minutes.
And I am pleased to see Finnish fans being very classy in this thread. Finland has one hell of a team and if we would play this game another 9 times, we probably lose 8 or 9 out of 10. But now I am going to enjoy this one! On to Canada, baby!

Congrats Switzerland, well played. Earned the win and place in the top 4 with active good play and then smart final period.

Finland was bipolar in this tournament as has been said multiple times. Gotta play good on steady basis if success is desired.

Not the best captain maybe and not ideal to be put as a centerman, but he still is one of the best Finnish players there is. Your critique should really be headed to other direction...

It’s ironic, 5 years ago I think Finland, against say Russia, would have played exactly like Switzerland today. Guess we have kind of gone from always having that underdog mentality to only really being an underdog against the absolute top teams. I guess it’s a good thing that our young players nowadays can grow up being serious contenders at U20s and U18s, but they also need to learn to play the full 60 minutes even if they are not playing against Canada.

This is complete mumbojumbo. Aho and Rantanen were both clearly Finland’s best players exactly in the 3rd period. Sure Granlund might deserve some criticism, but even he had some good effort at least. And as someone already mentioned, he just is not that good of a center for this level. He would have been for sure better as a winger. It is Marjamäki whom is to blame mostly. First of all for being abysmal with preparing the team against this type of teams, but also definitely for choosing players like Pokka, Manninen and Jormakka to the team. Some of the worst players I have seen in the national team in ages. Completely useless each of them.

We're only 'humble' because it's fashionable to be 'correct' about Marjamäki.
It would have been a cesspool of 'refs didn't call this and that' and 'you only won because of fluky bounces' when we would have had a 'real coach'.
There's no classiness in the casual Finnish fan, also not in many of the ones who type here.
They just shout at the 1st person they see from the team and repeat.

I'll take Aho over Koivu at this point, any day.

In his prime he was a great captain. But he is past his prime and he knows it. That's why he didn't join the roster.

Aho wasn't designated to be a "leader" for the team. He was meant to be a great playmaker and he was exactly that.

If people want to criticize Granlund for leadership, then by all means.

I'm actually more satisfied with this since I can enjoy the rage of senseless Marjamäki hating.
The guy that can't do anything right anywhere just lucked into 2 championships and a bronze in his 3 first years as a head coach. Sure.

All this stint proves is that he's not a tournament coach. That's fine. Outrage about this stint is somewhat fine. His resume as a coach is way better than 75% of coaches in Finland ever but sure, he's a **** coach.
The Jokerit stint will prove if he's trending up or down as a team coach as well. There's nothing to rage about, really. Other than the obvious loss here.
What I saw this from this tournament was that Granlund isn't going to be the C going forwards.
Enter Jalonen, let's see how he's going to be hyped and the savior and once that doesn't work, like it hasn't really worked, then criticised.

The 1 championship Jalonen has won't mean that he will win another. That's a long time coming.

Jalonen has won 2 gold medals ( IIHF men's worlds 2011 and U20 WJC gold 2016).
Yes he clearly is better than Lauri Marjashit. PS take your kärpät glasses off.

My God Finns, what a weird tournament for your boys! You guys crushed Canada (5-1) and the U.S. (6-2), yet lost to most of the 'weak' teams, even though Switzerland has now become a team that is to be taken seriously.

Very disappointing. Glad Marjamäki is gone, fitting end to this loser. I have to be happy about how they played when they played well though. There is a little bit of hope.

Congrats Switzerland.
I don't agree to call a 2-time champion, 1-time 3rd place coach in the team level a 'loser'.
Sure, if your argument is that he's a loser in tournaments, you would be correct.
Future won't even tell if he's a loser. He's won all that is available inside Finland.
