Bob McKenzie doesn’t cheer for Canada, and he’s always objective. Read his book. He talks about how after the 96’ World Cup he realized he couldn’t be a fan and cover the game professionally. If Bob says it wasn’t a penalty, it probably wasn’t a penalty. He often plays devils advocate vs Canada. You couldn’t be more wrong, it’s hilarious.
Did you ever read the emails when the NHL got sued for concussion reasons? Bob McKenzie is a humongous arse. The court release about 10,000+ emails and Bob was actually emailing Colin Campbell to get players suspended. No effin' joke here. He's a scrub.

Not to mention more positions to play in soccer, more playing time/areas available, less devastating physical injuries, and if your kid does end up making it professionally, there's more high level leagues and they get paid more.

Honestly if I had to choose a sport for my kid, soccer is up there in terms of cost-benefit-opportunity assessment.
My wife and I raised seven kids, and we gave up hockey for downhill skiing. We could afford that much more easily, and we could all ski together.

Meh, he was what .875 in the game that mattered? Pretty average, 4 goals against Czechia...
Robbed Sale twice in the first, should’ve been 5-1 Czech. He kept it close. Dickinson pawed a puck into the net, Bonk thought the jumbotron was more interesting than 2 Czechs racing down the ice. What can George do in those situations??

Did you watch the game or just peek at the box score?

Lots of blame to go around but the biggest blame to me is Cameron. The guy was a LOUSY coach for the Soo Greyhounds, a LOUSY coach for the Sens and istill a LOUSY coach for the WJ team.

I never thought his googly eyed face could be more punchable, but here we are. Second most punchable face in Canada to our PM. He truly was a low intelligence coach who never had anything meaningful to say after getting out coached over and over again.

It wasn't tho. Knee was the second point of contact. Main point and first contact was chest or shoulder on shoulder.
But it was a kneeing pen. I don't give an f***, if it is an entire body on the knee or a random piece of body hitting the knee, it still is a horrible potential-causing play that deserves punishment. I thought it was more of a minor than major though, but a right call in the end.

I quit hockey at major bantam for skiing.

Mainly because my team that year was full of colossal douche bags and I was like, “I don’t need this.”

Telling the coach to f*** off, saying they couldn’t be benched because their parents would get involved, etc.

I don't know about the EU, but the US has much, much better support for scholastic athletics in almost every sport. You have a better chance of playing for a competitive high-school team with lower participation costs in the US than in Canada, where it is pretty much pay-as-you-play.

Plus the US has ten times the population, and hockey has become a popular niche sport for rich white kids in numbers that Canada can't match in the long term.

The tide has turned. Canada is competitive, but nothing more than just one of many competitive hockey nations.
I believe the US has more registered minor hockey players now.

If it wasn't for the NCAA, our women's hockey team (Canadian) wouldn't be as successful.

It might not happen for a few decades, but eventually the majority of NHL players will be American.

When Bettman says "growing the game" he means in the USA.

Where do you think USA hockey gets finances from for the NTDP.

He's a lousy coach everywhere. He is a loser. I hope the 67s dump him end of season; no, he won't wi na Memorial Cup, winning isn't his vibe.

Still, Canada was extremely disorganized and reverted to safe outside shot plays while Czechia was like a machine out there, moving in tandem and rarely getting drawn into shenanigans.
Clean out detritus like Seabrook and Cameron and co. bring in young men to make the roster, go for it soon.

AFTER SO MANY YEARS OF PAIN AND SORROW, WE NEED MORE.

THIS GRUDGE IS LONG.

I am imagining this in Conan the Barbarian’s voice.

Nope, that's dumb. You're calling a good hit based on a potential injury. If you did that every single hit could end up as an injury. You call them how they happened, not what could have happened. It wasn't a knee on knee hit, it was chest to chest.

I wonder if the sanctions put on Hockey Canada due to the incident in 2018 are having a detrimental effect now with the funding being cut

I don’t think so. They could have picked a better team by just going on HockeyDB and looking at draft position. No scouts or “management” would have been needed.

That hockey bill would have had you working for the cartels ;-)
I grew up playing hockey almost every day, outdoors, from November to March in the prairies. It was almost free.

There were no video games, streaming or home movies, and only one TV station and two radio stations -- including the CBC.

There was nothing else to do all winter long.

I'm hooked for life, but in my household I watch hockey alone. No one else is the least bit interested.

Basketball, now that's another story.

The 1st and 4th were stoppable. Really needed that save with 39 seconds left. Every goalie has these circumstances, definitely shouldn't have been 5-1 Czech, that's ridiculous.
