Criticizing individual penalty calls in this game is like pointing out rust spots on the Titanic.

They need to make it so the best kids at a young age get enough financial support to play elite hockey, even if it means limiting team expenses (travel, off ice stuff etc) and having fewer "elite" teams that play/practice 5x/week.

We are better off with more kids playing but less getting "elite training" as 10 year olds. Geting the most physically talented kids to junior should be the goal. They can then get near full time coaching at 14 onwards.

A lot of parents don't bother with hockey since, if their kid is good, they can't afford for them to play AAA hockey. My co-worker's first son played AAA and the 2nd son wasn't allowed to play hockey, at all, since they couldn't afford it if he was also good, so he played basketball instead. And these aren't poor people, they are upper middle class. That's crazy.

On the + side, the third period I thought was their best period of the tournament. ( unfortunately , that intensity was missing for the rest of the tournament) George seemed pretty solid in net. Oh, I thought McKenna was pretty good, I missed the Schaefer game so can't comment there. That's about it for the positive . Sorry. Without going down that road of the players that didn't make the team, I thought the lines weren't clicking, well no thought involved , they weren't clicking. Disappointed in a lot of guys but thought Richie, Yaeger, Catton would be offence drivers, the list could certainly go deeper but some other guys have been beat on enough. The brain surgeons that pick the team try to pick a team to win this year with an emphasis on trying to set up next year at the same time. But instead of worrying about next year , they should just ice the best team for this year, thinking guys like Yakemchuk, Cristall and Senneke would have brought a little more spark to the offence. But I think the reality is if they played a full game like they played in the 3rd and last part of the 2nd period, they might have been able to beat anybody. Unfortunately , they didn't. Not done my rant I guess, if I don't comment on how inconsistent and brutal I thought the reffing was. That was a disgrace.

Hockey Canada probably has more funding than every other program combined, and if they need to put that much money into it in order to have results, there's probably efficiency issues.

I'm with orrforever... If you look at the last drafts. Canada is killing it.

The execution at this tournament was not like Canada at all.

This was avoidable. I do think it was the roster selection and coach. Canada is way too good for this result.

Oh totally agree. They need to stop with the rotation of legacy coaches, it's like moving 4th liners up to the top line to "get them going."

Players like Gordie Howe would not have been a hockey player in this day and age. All they had were skates, sticks, and a frozen cow patty to play with. Rolled-up Eatons' catalogs for shin guards, if you were good.

Even in my day, skates, sticks and very minimal equipment was all we had. Mostly helmets, shin guards, and maybe half the players had hockey gloves. Most of us just played in our woolen mitts.

The talent pool was practically every boy who had a pulse, and the very cream of the crop made it to the sponsored teams like the Junior Wheat Kings. Those players were few and far between.

Then, the main thing was how well you could skate, pass and shoot.

Now, it's how much money do you have.

.936 sv%, 1.96 GAA, 2 Shutouts in 4 games, and you criticize him. Nothing special? Give your head a shake.

This is why Canadian fans get a bad rep.
