It's true. I watched every game today and in-between periods I worked on our outdoor rink in the backyard. Right now I'm watching the recording of the Leafs game. I'm disappointed but it hasn't changed my interest whatsoever.

I don't even think it was a selection issue for Canada. They probably could have selected better players or a better mix of players but a Canadian team is never gonna be bad, no matter the selection.

The problem was that they weren't prepared. Czechia came to play...Canada only started playing when it was almost too late already. They proved they're good enough to play in the later parts of the game but when they finally started playing their margin for error was already used up and the Gibson penalty was too much. Discipline has been a major problem for them all tournament long though which is surprising. You don't see that very often with Canadian teams.

No, it was a selection issue. Misa is better than almost the entire team. Sennecke is better than most of the forwards. Parekh is a better offensive dman than anyone on the backend. Cristall. Heidt. Wood. They objectively left all their best players off the roster in favor of 2 way “play the right way” guys and they predictably could not score or generate high danger chances all tournament long.

Hmmm but if a player going for a hit doesn't anticipate their opponent to jump out of the way last second and then getting hit in the leg area doesn't make it an accident as well? Contact to the head is contact to the head and should be a penalty when a player hits another player in the head in any manner. Isn't that part of the IIHF rules regarding head contact? Gotta be able to control your elbow a little better there don't you think?

If you are going to put the onus on a body checker to avoid knee contact. Then that same onus should be put on a body checker to avoid head contact.

No legs were stuck out at any point on either hit. Both hitters were locked into position before contact.

I dunno, the atmosphere at Lansdowne for the fanfest is pretty fun. The group B and QF games at Lansdowne were well-attended. I went to 90% of the games at Lansdowne, and the vibe was very different from the one game (Canada vs U.S.) I went to at the CTC. Lansdowne felt like hockey should feel, CTC felt very corporate.

So team Canada loses again. Honestly no fault of the players. They didn't "ask" to be chosen for the team. Sports politics at its finest. Hockey Canada at fault for choosing a less than mediocre coach, whose OHL team with terrible stats thanks to his terrible coaching. And this coach decides to choose grinders instead of shooters, again no fault to those players. They played their best and incurred many undisciplined penalties, as grinders tend to do. Hockey Canada needs to step up and make the right picks not the political ones. Sadly like all hockey associations from minor leagues up they are never held accountable and so their friends and family members will continue to be chosen as coaches. Canadian hockey will continue to spiral
downward.

After watching Cristall be the Caps best offensive forward in the preseason, it baffles me that he didn't make this squad.

Well it seems like they got out what they put in. They were either about to take a penalty, killing off a penalty, or just getting over killing one off. They seemed to wait until it was too little too late to show any sense of intensity. Oh well 5th two years in a row... its not a coincidence... well done Hockey Canada, keep up the great product! Keep limiting the amount of games the kids can play, keep limiting the competitive opportunities, maybe playing half ice should be moved into peewee... whatever.

No "Head Scout" hired by Team Canada due to budget constraints after the WJC Scandal by the way. And it showed.

If Hockey Canada can't figure out how to scout a bunch of (98%) CHL players then they are plain stupid. I barely watch junior hockey and I could tell you Pinelli shouldn't be there and Yakemchuck should. I can tell you Dave Cameron is not a high stakes coach. Obviously the line of thinking at HC is highly flawed.

Cool. Still, they proved they're good enough. They dominated Czechia once they started playing. The problem was that they started playing too late. Czechia came prepared, Canada did not.

I remember going to USA Czechs for like $15 back in '08 or whatever. Pretty full big arena (18,000). Went to Czech-Sui at small arena (5000) and it is $55 and there were as many scouts as fans. Zero atmosphere.

Hockey in general has priced itself out in Canada and the game has changed a lot. New immigrants do not care, at all.

I was born in a different country and consider hockey my favourite sport. I grew up in a different era though where hockey just felt bigger.

I miss the days they would take this tournament to red deer or some small community like that.

I guess the growth and popularity over time is a double edged sword.

Yeah? Then why was there no call on the elbow to the back of McKenna’s head? Yeah, he turned and yeah he was low, but the Czechia guys were constantly jumping out of the way of hits and getting the calls.

The Mckenna hit could have been called. The Beaudoin and Gibson calls, I don't agree with. But this movie plays every year. There are lots of calls that are missed and calls made that would not be in major junior.

Again, if we score more goals none of this matters. Canada could ice two teams and either of them could expect to do better then the one we chose. Not on the players, they're kids and they gave it their all. Give me the heads of Hockey Canada.
