GDT: Quarter Finals: Canada vs Czechia; Jan. 2, 2025; 19:30 EST

Knees will ALWAYS exist. And they will always be going in the same direction as the motion of the attempted body check. A player is in his right to dive away from a check, but if they get hit with that knee in the process, the refs (NHL and IIHF) should be smart enough to realize the intention was a body check and the kneeing ONLY happened cause of the diving away action.
Those plays exist, for sure, but that isn’t always the case. And that last one was a perfect example - hitter used an extra wide stance to make sure he’d not get walked, mainly/only ended up making contact with one of the legs. That’s, at least, a trip, and the onus for that is on the hitter.

It was a broken play, a quick pass and a one timer to the short side.

You see those goals all the time in the NHL.
NHL goalies let in bad goals too. It was a bad goal, imo. Either way, it's like 4GA on 25 shots. It's not good night, any way you want to slice it. He wasn't good against USA either. You simply can't win with sub .900 goaltending. Again, I'm not saying he's the reason they lost. He was their best player all tournament. I'm just saying that bar isn't exactly high. Lmao

Every time Canada loses its the ref's fault eh
Canada won the 2002 womens gold medal game. I can complain about the officiating in both instances. There was a brutal call on the Czechs that lead to Canada tying the game. It wasn't a trip. It was a bad call. The bad reffing was on both sides today.

A lot of Canadians have the attitude of we are the best and as long as we show up we should win.

World of Hockey is changing. Winning wont be easy.
Canada has 550,000 registered hockey players and Czechs have 35,000, we have 30 million more people, and our GDP is 8x larger. And that's not even talking about Latvia.

We shouldn't expect to win gold, but we absolutely need to be better than Latvia and Czechia and this should be the expectation. Anything less is unacceptable.

I live in Ottawa and the hype for this tournament as been zero. Theres no talk at all about it, with canada out i bet it takes a big hit. Compared to 2009 the difference is amazing, i wonder if people are starting to sour on this tournament. Its been In canada too much, i think we need a chance to miss it to gain appreciation for it again.

The tournament has definitely lost some luster over the years.

What were the prices like this year? I think the tournament has lost some of its charm along the way as the ticket prices soared and they moved more and more into the big cities. It feels too corporate over the last decade or so.

Yes, I just think the roster construction wasn't great. But they are kids, it's a learning experience. Cameron is a woeful choice. anyone who was played and watched a lot of hockey can see all the defects running through TC offering.

this was a great experience for Gavin McKenna, and I got more enjoyment out of watching him than anything else.
Probably a couple of great TC years coming up. I can picture McKenna dominating next year.

Otoh, USA is probably going to have a tough time next year at least.

I disagree. Both kneeing penalties the only reason knee contact was even made was the Czech players trying to jump out of the way of the hit. This isn’t a poke your knee out to take the guy down situation.

Canada would rather lose to CZE than have to play usa again

Absolute cowards
I'm not liking that they allowed that teeny tot hutson to mock the crowd or the yank to chirpe the bench, but I don't think there is a player on the team that wasnt aching to get revenge on the Americans

Oh in that case my bad. I'll grant you the reffing was questionable.
