I've been watching the world juniors for a good 35 years (whenever TSN started with the punch up game). IIHF officiating at the world juniors has ALWAYS been this way. You adapt, or you lose.

Hockey Canada used to know this. For whatever reason, the wheels have come off over the last 5 years. HC needs to get back on track. We have talent. We have coaching. We need to get back to using both to the best of their abilities.

George sucked these last two games, imo. That game winning goal was a joke. Yeah, he was the best player on this dog water team, but he completely faded as the tournament progressed. No big saves today whatsoever. Deserved to lose, just like the rest of them.

Getting beat short side high on a cross ice one timer is not being stopped by many.

It's not even the refs per se, the rules are just different.

Though I generally think IIHF refs are far better at calling games to the IIHF rules than NHL refs are at calling games to the NHL rules.

It was near identical penalty that got Canada a PP goal to get within a goal. These are called 100% of the time

This roster was wrongly built, which is all down to incompetent management and coaching because there are plenty of players not selected for this team who would have helped the team score more and take less stupid penalties.

IIHF rules: Canadian kids play under the mistaken impression that hockey is tough, physical, game in which hitting is still allowed. European kids, on the other hand, are constantly jumping out of the way of hits and getting calls as a result. Still, doesn’t alter the fact that this Canadian team was sub-par.

Yep, NBA and soccer tactics have made their way into hockey. I've seen players constantly baiting refs in games I've been watching. Its definitely worked.

Years of trash NHL reffing and rulebook has made it a thing, yes. Sad to see that it's so common now.

Aside from George, I'm struggling to name a single Canadian player that performed at or above their expected level.

Schaeffer before he got injured. No one expected a 17 year old to be their most dynamic defenceman.

Well, not really a surprising result for this team. I won't lie and say oh, the Czechs were better in this game, but Canada had the exact same problems throughout the tournament and was done in by them. IIHF refs being dumb is as much a part of the tournament as pucks being made of rubber and is not the cause of the result.
