The reality is you could hold a tryout for the 50 best officials at this level based on ability, not knowing their nationality, and 46 of them would likely be Canadian. It doesn't mean they will never make a mistake or miss a call, but just like I wouldn't want Canadian officials reffing the soccer World Cup final or the cricket world championships, having Canadian officials overseeing international hockey is still an acceptable scenario to anyone who understands the training and experience that our officials go through in this country. Obviously the IIHF agrees.
