CHA‏ @CHAWomensHockey -

@RMUWHockey -
New RMU points queen @brithoward3 is your @CHAWomensHockey Player of the week!
http://rmucolonials.com/news/2017/1...rmus-howard-named-cha-player-of-the-week.aspx

A historic start to the 2017-2018 season for redshirt senior forward Brittany Howard of the Robert Morris women's hockey team was commemorated by College Hockey America with its Player of the Week award, the conference announced Monday. This is her tenth CHA Player of the Week award since joining the program, having similarly won the award at the beginning of her junior season.

The first-line center and St. Thomas, Ontario native began the campaign with her first career overtime goal, 40 seconds into the extra period of a 2-1 win at Mankato this past Saturday, her 13th collegiate game-winner.

On Sunday, Howard became the all-time leading scorer in Colonials history by assisting twice on a first-period hat trick by linemate Amber Rennie. Howard followed it up with a natural hat trick of her own that spanned the final two periods of a 6-2 victory over the Mavericks, the third HT of an illustrious NCAA career that has seen her collect 58 goals and 80 assists for 138 points and earn both the CHA scoring title and Player of the Year honors last season.

In addition, Howard was drafted tenth overall over the summer by the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) champion Buffalo Beauts, making Howard the first active RMU player to receive that distinction.

1. Brittany Howard (F), Robert Morris University -

Brittany Howard continued her goal scoring streak over the weekend yet again, this time with three goals in two games versus Brown. She also added three assists in the games for a total of six points during the weekend.

In Robert Morris’ imposing 11-0 victory over Brown on Friday, Brittany Howard recorded two goals, two assists, a plus five plus-minus rating, and eight shots on goal. All of her points came at even strength as Robert Morris dominated Brown.

Saturday’s game between the two teams ended in a much closer 3-2 win for Robert Morris. Brittany Howard kept her scoring streak alive at six games with one goal and one assist. Her goal came shorthanded and she recorded seven more shots.

This week’s must see matchup is between Colgate and Clarkson. The ECAC matchup on Friday will feature two Buffalo Beauts draft-picks. Annika Zalewski (Colgate) and Savannah Harmon (Clarkson).

For the first time in the city's history, a top-tier professional hockey team will raise a championship banner next month. Before that historic day, the Buffalo Beauts, fresh off their first Isobel Cup, open their season with a road and neutral site game. The team's third campaign begins this weekend, when Buffalo faces the Connecticut Whale Saturday at 2:30 pm. Here's what you need to know as the National Women's Hockey League kicks off:

1. When are the banner festivities? - The Beauts will raise their championship banner at 8 pm November 11 at the HarborCenter. It'll be a tough sight for the visiting team, the Boston Pride, since Buffalo upset them in the final despite Boston winning all five regular season matchups.

2. The roster has seen big changes - Buffalo added one of the biggest names in free agency in August, signing forward Jess Jones from the rival professional league, the CWHL. Jones spent four years with the Markham Thunder, most recently scoring a league-leading 37 points last season. She isn't the only player Buffalo lured from Markham. Also joining the Beauts this year is defender Sarah Edney, a CWHL first-round pick in 2015, and forward Rebecca Vint, who finished fourth on the Thunder in scoring last season.

It isn't all good news for the Beauts, as they lost two cogs of the defensive unit. Megan Bozek, the 2017 NWHL Defensive Player of the Year, won't play this season after her selection to the USA Hockey roster for the Olympics. Goalie Brianne McLaughlin, last year's postseason MVP, retired. Buffalo is without three of its top four scorers from last season. Kourtney Kunichika, who notched 11 points last season, is the leading returner.

3. There are four hometown players - The Beauts roster boasts four Buffalo natives - Maddie Elia, Hayley Scamurra, Jacquie Greco and Julia DiTondo. All four went to Nichols and enjoyed successful Division I careers. Greco, a Syracuse grad, is the only returning player. In her rookie season, she scored one goal in 15 regular season games and a goal in the Isobel Cup-clinching game.

The other three are all breaking into the professional ranks. Last season, Elia scored 11 goals and 31 points at Boston University, while Scamurra scored eight goals and 31 points at Northeastern. DiTondo, a goalie, played at Mercyhurst from 2012 to 2015.
