By end of December Connor Brown realized his role, adapted his game , used his size and speed and meshed perfectly in the bottom 6.

It's laughable to compare figure skater Skinner and chestvidsson And their impact on the team even in the same realm as CB now. That role belongs to Brown. Neither are good enough to play in the top 6 and neither are versatile enough or mesh to make a significant impact on the bottom 6. I could give Arvidsson a pass, but the guy has shown absolutely 0 hands and is made of glass, too small and isn't some young guy trying to prove himself. Championship teams make cutthroat moves. Neither mean much in the grand scheme of things
I felt it was later than that. I know we shat on him as such until very late in the season.

I'm not comparing the players, completely different. But the situations are no so dissimilar Arvie I think can play in the Top 6 if he can stay healthy. Skinner's foot speed and decision making is definitely suspect, but he does still have a Top 6 skill set. Unfortunately, his skating may too severe to gel with this team.

Sabres lose 13 in a row. This 12 year run of misery is worse than anything the DoD Oilers ever did.
Low bar to meet. Being the second worst stretch in NHL history isn't exactly something to brag about. Just be happy he fluked into McDavid or we blow the 12 year record out too.

Agreed. I mean you probably be patient for a bit longer, but at this point it's becoming more clear Jackson hitched his summer wagon to a lot of pieces that are not bringing the expected results.

Have to be cutthroat like the top contenders, get these guys out of here.
Skinner is a skilled veteran. They should improve the team by adding a d-man and a physical winger, but Skinner could be invaluable for scoring depth come the playoff time. Not everybody needs to be a ppg player. Having many guys who will pot 10-20 goals a season in limited ice time is a strength.

Nice tits. He doesn’t skip chest day that’s for sure
Still skinny like a worm, but at least with some muscle lol.

Good game by the team today. They deserved the win.

My goodness though. You’re telling me we had a disgruntled RFA who had requested a trade and pretty good value sitting there and Nashville had a disgruntled Askarov, and we just didn’t think to try a deal out based around a swap…

No, not with Stuart "the wall" Skinner in net, an extra goalie would be redundant. Kiddin btw

I was thinking the same thing. Their were a few teams in talks for this guy. He was pricey, the oilers did not seem to want to spend the assets to get him.

I'd say that a few games to start the year is fair considering the cup hangover. The fact is they are the best team in the league in the last 25 games and have had good goaltending for over a month straight with the exception of the Panthers game. I'd love to hear your suggestion for an improvement.

The fact you are in here talking about goaltending in a game in which we had a .910 and our goalie made some MASSIVE saves (Celebrini breakaway, Granlund alone in slot, Kunin multiple times) is silly.
I'd say last year, it was fair to completely dismiss the Woody era as well. And I think we all underestimated the effects of the Cup hangover, which is a severe knock on the psyche of this team, everything suffered.

That pass by Perry at the end there though… I don’t think any of our other wingers besides Kapanen and maybe Podkolzin makes that play.

Of course not. Way to state the obvious. So get the dead weight off the roster for March
Lol my apologies, I thought people would be smart enough to actually understand the point of my comment, clearly you’ve proven me wrong. The point was that it’s not about how guys play in November and December, it’s about how guys are playing in late February, March and April. Veteran contending teams and players don’t tend to empty the tank in the first two months of the season and the Oilers in particular are a group that has consistently shown they ramp up as the season goes on.

Contending teams don’t dump players 30 games into the year when they’re rolling.

The goalie we should have acquired in the offseason. Would have been great to have him split games with Skinner

It was insane to me that Nashville let him go. And that a lot of teams apparently weren’t interested enough to outbid a 1st + prospect ? He’s a foundational piece.

Not a great start by the boys, but well deserving of the win. Should be a fun one tomorrow against the Sens, who are playing really well.
