I suppose not. But having a 2nd line AHLer on your NHL roster is a very strong indication that your team sucks. Ask the Flyers or Canes about that.

Sorry, but this is a rebuilding team, there will be no cupcakes anymore. In fact, many nights we will be the cupcake team.
That’s fine by me . I’d rather make the playoffs on the last day of the regular season and maybe make a little noise than to go through what we went through last year.

What is your opinion on Lohrei and Poitras?
Do you think one or both will make the team?
I thought Lohrei played an average game against Washington. His goal was nice, great to see both him and McAvoy in the offensive zone ahead of the forwards LOL.
He made some defensive errors which is part of the learning curve and I am still debating whether he should start the season in the NHL.
Poitras, on the other hand played very well. He is great on the draws and I think deserves a 9 game audition.

Greer with a fight tonight, Brown with 4 hits, Boqvist with a goal and an assist .....who's your 13th forward? Please don't say Heinin lol

I think a top6 role is too much for Poitras right off the bat. Start him on the 3rd line where you can protect him (matchups/ice time) and move him up as he gets more comfortable. I think this is a legit look at the opening night top9.

On defense, I think they're giving Lohrei and Mitchell another chance to show they're better than Forbort and Shattenkirk (respectively).

Wonder if they'd consider having an anchor on each pair, something like:

Gryz-McAvoy
Lohrei-Carlo
Lindholm-Mitchell/Shatty

If he makes it, Carlo would be a great place for Lohrei to start, hopefully his style would allow Lohrei some more freedom in the Ozone.
I like it. Lidnholm showed last year he can carry a pair (paired with Clifton for the first quarter of the season) and look like a Norris caliber player while doing it. Carlo gives Lohrei someone smart and steady to play with. That would be a spectacular defense that you could shorten late in games.

Greer is a known commodity. I thought he was decent last year. I'd be fine with him as the 13th.

Boqvist probably has the highest offensive upside, so that to me also makes him a solid candidate.

Brown I've been unimpressed with. Everyone says he plays hard and brings physicality, which is nice, but at this point I think he's at best the 14th forward, which is fine because with his 2 year deal I don't think anyone touches him on waivers, so he can be sent to Prov and called upon when needed.

I think they should both make the team. I thought they both struggled defensively against Philly (especially Poitras) but I think you make them bottom half roster players and you manage their minutes and matchups so they can learn the NHL game, contribute offensively and you minimize exposure to those big mistakes.

Beecher should be on this team too. He's their 3rd best center right now.
Mitchell has also been more dynamic and had more of a positive impact than Shattenkirk. Mitchell has been a play driver at times, like late in the Buffalo game. I want to see if he can bring that to the regular season.

What’s the point if they are going to collapse in round 1 ?
Me personally as someone who watches the team for entertainment, and since I'm not on the team and their accomplishments have no impact on my life, I like tuning in and watching them win more than when they lose, so last season was a blast. It was something to look forward to at the end of the day.

Last year was fun to a degree but we all knew impending doom was possible and sure enough it happened. I want them to win also no matter what game they are playing even if it’s just exhibition and I desperately need something to watch . I don’t watch shows or movies anymore but I won’t have any expectations.

I say they all go back

They basically don’t lose anyone and Guelph got a bunch of jerseys they would otherwise have to send to Costa Rica

Poitras / Guelph
Beecher - Boston
Lohrei / AHL
Mitchell / Boston

Other than getting to see how Coyle and Zacha do at 1C and 2C, my main interest tonight is seeing how Mitchell plays. Pretty much everyone else are known commodities at this point in camp. Fingers crossed that the Bs are on to something with Mitchell.

I'll be looking to see how Marchand-Coyle-DeBrusk look. I know we've seen a short sample in the playoffs last year but sometimes chemistry changes (for better or worse) over a summer.

I want to see more of Zacha at center. Is he going to drive play or just not hold Pasta back? Washington was relentless in their coverage of Pasta and I think we're going to need Zacha to make teams pay for overplaying 88.

I'm most interested in seeing Frederic-Poitras-Geekie. IMO, if Poitras stays, it will be on the 3rd line so this audition means a lot to that line.

So maybe it's not Beecher vs Brown, it's Lauko vs. Brown?

I liked what Brown brought to the PK. He was very active and quick, watching his "head on a swivel" was giving me whiplash. That said, I kinda want Lucic-Beecher-Lauko as a 4th line. If Beecher or Lauko struggle, bring up Brown.

I highly doubt the Bruins brass would not start Shattenkirk on the 3rd pairing. I think that's a given.

It'll be ineteresting to see what happens with the guys they brought in over the summer via trade or UFA. I think JVR and Shattenkirk are the only locks. Brown, Boqvist, Geekie... I think Heinen, Beecher and Lauko are just as likely to make the team. Maybe Geekie has a leg-up on 3C if Poitras goes back.

And Mitchell? 7th D if Lohrei is sent down? Or does he make Forbort expendable?

I know people are down on Forbort, but even with his shortcomings, he is a good PK-er and he's a big body that can clear the crease with some snarl. That's still something we need.

Myself, I think we should have Poitras, Lohrei and Beecher on the opening night roster.

Will they make some mistakes? Sure. They're young. Inexperienced. But they will learn and grow. You pair them with veterans who can mentor them and speed their paths.

It comes down to this. Do you want to go with relatively safe blah players like Heinen who don't make a ton of errors but also don't really give you much or do you want to go with a player like Poitras who will make some errors but will also offer you dynamic moments that can change games? Bruins have a tendency to play it "safe" and thus we often come up short in the big moments. It's time to start moving on and getting exciting.

Still can see a scenario where they decide to go status quo. That means Beecher, Lohrei and Poitras go back and they sign Heinen.

I really hope I am wrong, but Monty say giving them one more game for a good camp sounds to me like it’s a see yeah next year or call up after seeing a consistent showing in Providence.

Again, I really really hope I am wrong, the young players are why I am excited about this year, not Boqvist, Brown or Heinen.

I don't think Beecher has looked any worse than Frederic did when he started. Maybe they're waiting for him to drop the mitts like Frederic did and show the staff he's serious for the rugged 4C role.

I don't get the Mitchell love some people have. To me he's like a lesser version of Clifton without the hitting.
So if it's choose between Zboril and Mitchell, my answer is Lohrei.

Why? Slap him between Lauko and Looch and you've got a good 4th line. Unless you want a line brawl he doesn't really need to drop them all that much if at all.
