Assuming Anderson is out for eating a few pucks last night. Looked like his leg was injured, or sore at least. Probably why he is out tonight. Giving him a little rest.

Last year three rookies made their debut. Buchnevich, Skjei and Vesey. Was the first time that happened since the class of 2010 which was stellar! McDonagh, Stepan, Sauer and Zuccarello all debuted that year.

Early on I didn't think this was possible to ice three rookie again this season but I'm not certain of that anymore.

Nieves
Chytil
Anderson
Pionk
Beargloves

All have legit shot.

Does it seem awfully early to be finishing our preseason games than usual?

There's still a week until the start of the season.

I recall that we'd normally see all cuts finalized after the last preseason game.

Maybe more decisions will trickle out over the next week of practices?

You are not mistaken. It is extremely early. Not only the end of pre-season in relation to the start of the season, but the start of pre-season in general.

Even the season seems like it's starting extremely early.

Think Beargloves already got sent down.
Nieves playing is more a result of our poor center depth than his talent.
Chytil and Andersson wont play the whole season.
Pionk is going to be sent down in favor of the veterans staal and holden

Holden didn't play last night and isn't playing tonight.

I guess we can say that the coaching staff wants to get a look at the guys they don't know as well, but I think thats pretty telling regardless.

Unless hes banged up and I missed that.

Bereglazov certainly didnt do himself any favors with his showing. Is he reporting to the AHL or going back to the KHL?

Even if Chytil and Andersson head to Europe, one thing this preseason has done is established that guys like Carey and Lettieri could potentially be comfortable in an emergency callup role if they have injuries this season.

That was one of my concerns heading in... that without any decent forward depth in Hartford we'd end up having to dress poor players like Tambellini or Fogarty if we had a streak of 2-3 injuries up front.

Lettieri Carey and Stromwell could all skate in the nhl if needed. Probably in that order. I bet Farnham gets a contract too

Didn't see much out of Stomwell myself. Didn't do much with the puck

Lettieri has a motor and isn't afraid to shoot but I mostly see a depth guy at this point. Might have more to develop.

Carey just kind of...is

Dont think anyone knows at this point. All we know is that he has an out clause if he wants it :)

hopefully they saw last night and called it for him. #7-8 press box attendant

AV would eat glass before he benches Staal.

Staal is going to play, and play a huge role.

With Girardi gone, Staal is leaned on even more, since AV's schizophrenic ass needs a horrible defenseman in the lineup because "HURRRRR DURRR"

I'd like to see #72 get big minutes. I don't think he's the messiah; I just want to see of what he's capable when given the most ice time of any forward. Given tonight's lineup, I'd like to see him between Miller and JV.

Nah I think this is pretty normal, they usually have a week between the last preseason game and start of the season. Let's teams start really practicing with their starting rosters.

I think most of the cuts will happen after tonights game, might keep a few guys they're on the bubble about but generally have the final roster shape, and then make the last couple of cuts before opening night

It's probably the fact that I didn't grow up in a hockey environment and we do our pre-seasons very different to how hockey does it, but it seems so weird to me that the roster will be finalised after the last practice game, meaning that your opening roster (and therefore presumably best roster) doesn't get a chance to practice against anyone except each other
