[FIELDSET="QUOTES TO NOTE"]

Overall, it felt like a good test for me to work on my game.
I get good feedback when I sit down to watch the game later and analyze a little bit.
I have a week now to really work on everything in my game to make sure it's as good as it can be.
- Henrik Lundqvist

We've talked about trying to be a quick, mobile group back there and up front too.
It's good to take advantage of that time and space on the ice and find a way to finish.
- Ryan McDonagh

We've got one more game here. A lot of those players are going to play on back-to-back nights.
They're going to have another opportunity to show what they can do. We'll have to make decisions.
- Alain Vigneault

Based on recent trends, we're going to lose this one in regulation, with the score of 1-2?

Right?

Back-to-backs likely for

Carey
Lettieri
Chytil
Fontaine
Nieves

Kampfer
DeAngelo

But not Andersson per NYR,, which is interesting. Maybe they've made up their mind on him already.

Pionk will likely get one more look, but my guess is that NYR have settled on DeAngelo making the roster.

I feel like Desharnais needs to show more activity or risk being the spare forward/waived.

I'm guessing you're right, especially with Chytil playing again.

ADA earned his spot in the top 6. I didn't want him initially but I am impressed with his overall game. I do really like that Graves and Pionk are there to the end knocking on the door. Should be the top pair in Hartford.

Anyway I researched today on different web sites related to power rankings in NHL based on that topic - and there are so many hockey writers who are critical to Pavelec. So I`m really really worried about him, and I`m glad I`m not alone to feel this way - when I read some reviews about him I was surprised that we signed him earlier this summer.

Might be giving Chytil a game with lesser linemates to see how much of his game has been elevated by having quality linemates. Wouldn't be surprised to see Vesey/Hayes/Miller together tonight.

Kreider - Zib - Buch
Nash - Chytil - Zucc
Vesey - Hayes - Miller

To start the year?

He had an awful season last year and has struggled over the last two years, but he played well the season before that. Plus Allaire seemed to be on board with bringing him in, so that counts for quite a bit. He made adjustments to his game right away and he's looked much more composed in net.

Wouldn't worry too much about him until he proves to be a problem.

hopefully they saw last night and called it for him. #7-8 press box attendant

Not a chance in hell. He's your 2nd pairing shutdown dman again this season. If preseason usage is any indication of how things will go it's going to be a continuation of the Ottawa series

Yeah well Henrik will play most of the games, but he is 35. I guess I`m not use to this kind of situation in years since we had Raanta & Cam Talbot.

Does it seem awfully early to be finishing our preseason games than usual?

There's still a week until the start of the season.

I recall that we'd normally see all cuts finalized after the last preseason game.

Maybe more decisions will trickle out over the next week of practices?

I'd be for it. Never thought a month ago that I'd be approving a Chytil centered second line on opening night

Chytil almost had his head removed last night, which hopefully he'll get a lesson on from the staff today.

The Czech league isn't known for open ice hits. Talked to a friend who is a fan of Plzen who says that Ryan Hollweg is pretty much the only guy in the league known for that style of play.

Nah I think this is pretty normal, they usually have a week between the last preseason game and start of the season. Let's teams start really practicing with their starting rosters.

I think most of the cuts will happen after tonights game, might keep a few guys they're on the bubble about but generally have the final roster shape, and then make the last couple of cuts before opening night

Gudas makes that hit on every day NHLers on a regular basis as well, just glad that it mainly caught Chytil in the chest/body and wasn't one of those hits where he's nailed in the chin with a shoulder and then there's a 1000 post thread arguing about whether it was "clean check to the chest" or "dirty hit to the head"

Same here.

I think having him between two veterans who play a well-rounded game will take a lot of the pressure off of him. Center is a tough position but Nash and Zucc should be able to make reads on the ice to cover for some of his mistakes if they do occur.

I see Pavelec as looking a bit more composed so far this preseason. He's looking bigger in net and not making as many unnecessary movements/over-commitments.

His rebound control is still not great, though.

In Allaire we trust.

I`m still a little uneasy, but we will see this evening - hopefully he get a whole game.

It's for sure a question mark but Raanta had some similar complaints about his game before coming here.

On the other hand Raanta will still probably better (in limited showings) than Pavelec...

I don't think we need Pavelec to be lights out, just provide some average NHL level goaltending, so hopefully Allaire can help him get there

Yeah I’d agree with this statement. I can see a difference already. Haven’t seen enough yet though. Tonight should be interesting.
