My takes are the following:
Lias has secured his spot in the top 9 as all the work he did in the offseason has paid off and he looks like a completely different player and now the 7th overall we spent on him looks like it won't be a wasted pick afterall which was in question heading into the year..well done Lias as he's had a masterful preseason...phewww
Chytle..luv the guy and luv the skill set and I'm very confident he's going to be a bigtime contributer for us but lets be honest folks...he's been nothing like we expected and what I'm sure he expected. As I said a few times tonight and in some other game day threads, he's just not ready yet. He's the same guy he was last year and unlike Lias has not made the necessary improvements in his game needed to move to the next level.
He needs to go to Hartford to get some confidence and get his game in gear. He's certainly not ready for a 2nd line center slot which is what we all were hoping and what Quinn and the coaching staff were hoping and so with us having pretty much 3 weeks between games seemingly in the beginning of the season, let him play in Hartford and see if he get his ass back on track. He simply is not ready.
Hank looks like he's ready to play 40-45 games this year and if he can play like he can play at the high level like he did tonight 90% of the time and Georgie can play up to his potential the rest of the time, we should be in pretty good shape and no doubt be in the mix for a playoff spot.
DeAngelo looked fantastic and if this is what we are in for, I would have no issue at all and hopefully Quinn won't either no matter how much Trouba makes per year, if ADA is our QB on the #1 PP unit beginning game 1 and see how that goes
One more thing. I haven't seen what we need to see from Trouba yet or even Kakko tho he has shown a glimpse or two. Trouba tho has let's be honest again...blown chunks. It's early but it would be nice for both of them to at least show their A games like quickly.....OK I'm done!...lol
Chytil is a classic example of a kid being rushed. What do we want him to improve? Confidence and poise with the puck. We want him to faster find passing solutions. Just be a little smarter offensively with the puck.
Sure some of that can come from age and experience alone. But for a center that it’s the core of their game and the only way to practice it is in games. The last two years — which is a very long time — Chytil has had very little time with the puck. The AHL isn’t even a good place for it, the best talent is in the NHL and the best checkers in the AHL. It’s not an easy league to play with.
Not saying any permanent damage has been done, just that it seems like we have put ourself in a bit of a troublesome position.
