Chytil might not the talent we don`t know yet - it require a lot of dedication and training with a talent to be successful so you need both.

But where is Kreider - he had barely one shoot on target? :DD
These guys don`t look ready for a new season... :help:

I will never ever understand why nhl coaches with such a short amount of time before the season starts, waste time with guys who will never lace em up for your team.

Preseason is the time you want your guys to get ready to play...if you want to see what these other guys have...start em in Hartford...this time needs to be for the guys with legit chances to make the team.

Every god damn coach has done this bs for as long as I can remember and I effing hate it.
NJ played their second and third string against us in our 1st preseason game. And they still out played us defensively. Not because we played poorly (1st game), but due to them playing really well.

So you never know how these guys will play, until you throw them out there. Quinn has three games left to focus on game shape.

Lias has looked completely different — in a good way this season.

Not sure what you’re watching.
He looked like a tree stump on the PK. He never pressured anyone, never moved, like a tree stump. Totally ineffective. That's what I was watching.

It's weird but I'd say the 2 best defenseman this preseason have been fox and reunanen... The rest of the (expected to make the team) defenseman have looked.... Yikes.

I dont know why this team feels the need to play with 4 players as forwards. In the last 2 years I have never seen so many 2 on 1's in my life. Either stop activating the d or make sure someone is covering for him. Its not rocket science, we could be an ok team if we could get that sorted out.

It's usually just the guys that arent locks to make the team that give the extra effort. The vets are just out there loosening up and trying not to get hurt.

If Zibanejad gets injured this season, stick a fork in us. Even if not, we need help. Strome needs to have a good year. Chytil I think will be ok. Just ok. We need Strome to be even better than last year. I think with more responsibility he might rise to the occasion.

I had never seen reunanen play till traverse City....but man...this kid is really impressive

He really is and I love that he loves his slap shot and isn’t afraid to use it. Great skater really really like him. We should never let him go back to Europe.

I think 20-21 is the year we'll be poised to compete for a playoff spot, 21-22 I could see us being a main contender in the conference. Granted, I know it's looking almost foolishly far ahead, but just saying I agree with your overall premise.
Not even remotely. You don't have to feel bad for playing a lil bit of GM while thinking about prospect development here on Hockey's future

I'd be surprised if he makes the team. Or if he does,... stays with the team.

I don't get the Lias love. He can't PK, is not strong in the corners, doesn't bring much offensively, unless he picks up some garbage infront, and doesn't impress me defensively. That said he not as bad as some of our other youngsters, but I think he needs more time to grow.

After these three games, you can bet the coaches are going to go with a more mature line up to open the season. And limit the amount of youngsters. I'm not sure he stays up here, even if he makes it out of camp.
I've watched all of 10 mins of pre season hockey bc it's practically useless for anything except evaluating a few youngsters and having a cardiac episode. I have not seen Lias or his improvements yet. You could be right but literally you are the first (I've seen) to say this about him based on his preseason thus far.

You consistently seem to generate opinions or make observations that are so completely disconnected from not only everyone else but often times the actual reality of what's occurring.

So when I read this it has a PB effect. I think "Wow Lias really MUST look good then"

A rebuilding team does not sign Trouba and Bread man to those contracts.
Is this the new take around here? Seen this thinking a lot lately. Sorry if I'm misreading this but it looks like you're saying"We did this stupid move so it was smart just bc we did it." Even though it was actually dumb because we ARE a rebuilding team.

A smart rebuilding team doesn't do the Panarin contract. We're not smart in free agency and we took an enormous risk that hopefully pays off. The NYR's making an idiotic decision does not make the idiotic decision justifiable. The decision working out does not justify it either. I could go slam down ten grand on lotto tickets now. It's a completely idiotic decision even if I miraculously hit.

Pan is still an enormous risk and 3 years from now we are likely going to find out it wasn't necessary when two or three other surprise stars become available like they always do. Trouba is a very different situation.

It's tough to say why we are playing so poorly. You're right that they are out of position more often than not. But that could be due to many things. Like last night, we were turning over the puck too easily, creating an odd man against. Or not getting it deep, so we can change lines. Last night we didn't even give our defense a chance to perform.

Was at a wedding last night so just watching the replay now and will give my thoughts per period (just because I want to not that anyone cares all that much lol)

the first 18 mins of this game we were pretty good until a bad late penalty by Nieves derailed us and the Flyers get the lucky goal.

Hadn't given up much and guys like Chytil and Kravtsov have made multiple good plays. Chytil as some have said looks very sharp handling the puck and very decisive. His hands have calmed down for sure. Very good first period for him. Kravtsov needs to work on speeding up his decisions with the puck lot less time and space here but that will not take long you can see it.

Skjei and Trouba look solid Trouba playing a mean game but they’re clearly not going balls to the wall here.

Adam Fox is so smart breaking up plays at the lines with his stick jumps in when he should just a very heady player. I have yet to see him get himself in trouble all summer. I mean not once.

Robertson should not be playing in this game crazy for the coaches to do it.

Kreider Strome literally did not try at all in this period. Can’t blame them

Anderson still needs to get stronger on his skates. Otherwise looked significantly improved which isn’t saying a ton and I’m still eh on his future.

Chytil looked good. Couple of nice patient plays in the D zone with the puck to skate it out, had a couple of plays in the O zone where he made stuff happen too off the cycle which rarely happened last year

Schneider stood on his head. The Devils were outplayed.

So which is it? If I could be right, how could it be so disconnected?

The reality is what I see on the ice. I have already shown tape of him (Lias) dogging it on the backcheck in an earlier game giving up a huge chance with Igor bailing him out. And last night for the second game in a row, showed he doesn't belong on the PK. He was lost, ineffective and invisible. He will never be mistaken for Callahan on the PK. He goes into the corners with the puck, and gives it up every time he is pressed. I don't know what others are watching, but this is the reality. He needs work is all I'm saying.

Skjei is back to trying to do too much. He tried to become McDonagh after he trained with him, now he’s trying to be the type of 1st pairing D he thinks he should be. Just relax and stop forcing everything

Lias has taken a lot of effort to get better and it's showing, he isnt perfect or a finished product yet so cut the kid some slack. Everyone develops at a different rate, he may or may not ever live up to his draft spot but its not really his fault they picked him there.

Granted I missed his 5 point night, but this has actually been something I've been worried about with Fox for a while - he plays too safe in my book. He slows the pace down and takes his time with the puck which means he makes very few mistakes but the team almost always faces a set defence when he leads the breakout. In the NCAA this was obviously not an issue where his skill level was just head and shoulders above the rest but you saw as early as the World Championship that when the talent level increased his ability to create offence at even strength disappeared.

From what I watched in TC and preseason (and again I missed Fox' big game) Joey Keane was much more impressive, using his skating to put the opposition on their heels and opening things up - which naturally led to a few mistakes as well.

I think with faster decision making Fox could turn into a Strålman-type, which would be great, but I don't see him being a dynamic offensive defenceman at the NHL level unless he starts moving his feet a lot more. Strålman similarly played a safe, but very effective, game but he was always very quick to move up the puck which I haven't really seen from Fox yet.

2nd period thoughts:

Rangers forwards cannot get pucks deep mostly the scrub guys trying to do to much or incapable of handling hard passes from the D. Buried their defense in the process.

Nieves is having a really rough game defensively in particular which is bad news for him.

13 minutes in another nice play between Kravtsov and Chytil. They’ve been good. Fox with multiple good plays breaking up passes and keeping offense alive.

Andersson has done nothing to this point with his line. Pretty opposite of the game he played in NY. Lot of turnovers if anything.

Have zero problems with 8&76 thru this point. Reading the board I’m ASSUMING it’s going to get a lot worse for them in the third because of all the panic here? but so far they’ve been fine.

Robertson continued to struggle. again shouldn’t have been out here.

We had multiple odd man rushes at least as many as Philly and we failed to get shots off. Lot of over passing. The last few mins we got killed on the long change our Young Dmen again Robertson.

Shesterkin really good
