Wow what a brutal period that was...

Insane how many breakaways and odd man rushes philly generated in that period...the defense is a tire fire
 
Defense is going to be a huge problem again this season. This simply isnt NHL level defense. This team cant compete for a playoff spot with this kind of defense regardless of how guys like Panarin and Kakko do.

Part of the issue is that the forwards can’t sustain any sort of forecheck. It’s difficult to play 35 minutes of defense out of 40

The defense hasn't been good but you can't play in your end the whole game and expect much different. It's on the forwards to establish a forecheck and some offensive zone time. And yes the forward lineup is poor so they have some leeway but this is not a good performance regardless.

1000% this. People need to temper their expectations with these preseason games.

The defense was a problem then as well. Georgiev kept us in many of those games.

Yeah and? Have you seen the personnel we had to put on the ice? Pionk was our "shutdown defenseman" ffs.

And btw this game is irrelevant. Even if we had all 6 defenseman dressed who we expect to make the club, defense is a 3 zone thing. If your forwards suck, can't establish a forecheck, can't help pressure in the neutral zone, can't backcheck, lack defensive awareness, you're going to suck regardless of who you have back there on D.

The forward group is abysmal tonight. They have about 4 guys out there who will be on the opening night roster. Enough of this crap. The season starts in about 2 weeks.
