GDT: Prospect Development Camp 2017

A new acquaintance for me was Vince Pedrie. Love his agility and how he can drive the puck up ice. Naturally not much can be drawn from watching that crappy feed, didn't like even spot Pionk once, but you could definitely tell that Pedrie is a very poised with the puck.

How close was Lias Andersson to get a misconduct after he went after the ref when he was called for tripping Huska BTW? ;) Haha you don't see someone getting that upset about a penalty in a scrimmage normally. Liked his game, played like he had something to prove. The kids has great drive down center ice and really gets dirty as well as making plays with the puck. Liked what I saw.

Calle Själin also looked really slick, the kid is still only 17 y/o. Impressive for a 5th rounder.

Filip Chytil have the funniest youthful innocence look ever, but damn I don't think anyone feel worse about this pick after watching this kid play in rookie camp. Good effective stride. Good with the puck, confident. You notice him a lot. Sure this is a rookie scrimmage, and some years we haven't had the best crew there. But the level of play is definitely not low. There are many very competent players there. I think the top 20 from this rookie camp easily could play a meaningful hockey game against any NHL team. If you compare to like the Olympics when Canada's best can play Japan -- that match-up would be nothing like that. It would be a game between two teams on the same planet no doubt. Day, Zboro, Pedrie, Bereglazov, Gropp, Virta, Gilmour and co -- are hockey professionals at the highest level. Usually the just drafted players don't stand out much if at all at this level. Chytil might even have been the most noticeable player so far.

Didn't see much of the Blue Team's D--they were at the other end of the rink mainly. Of the White Team the standouts on D were Day, Pedrie and Sjalin.

As for Andersson--always attacking the net. Pushing and shoving with Zborovskiy. Scrumming hard for pucks in the corners and along the boards.

Chytil's got that wide stocky body and he moves really well with the puck. I don't have any problem with the Rangers taking him at 21. Other forwards I think that have looked really good--Virta, Poryadin (KHL invite) and Ronning.

I always get a little excited when we look at Russians. The guy is young & small...but there's something about Russians that peaks everyone's interests: High offensive ceilings.

How did Dominik Lakatos at camp?
He had number #52

FWIW judging by the video feed it's pretty hard to tell how anyone was doing. The camera was set in one end any so you could see one team as it forechecked and the other as it tried to break out. I got the idea that Day, Sjalin and Pedrie could defend and move the puck pretty well--but the camera was on those three a whole lot. That said I think Lakatos did okay for himself.
