Florida is just Edmonton East. So many top picks wasted.

Who have we "wasted"? Rajala? Omark? Hartikainen?
Our top picks have been leading our club for a few years .. FLA has them sheltered by vets but are still getting nothing done.

FLA is a cap floor team we are not.

Add Yakimov and Slepyshev on our side and Foligno onto their side and I'd do it.

Then trade Eberle for Dubinsky.

Trade Gagner (33% retained) for Glenncross.

Trade Schultz for Bieksa.

Trade Petry + Lander for Cowen.

Trade Marincin + 2015 2nd for Boychuk.

Sign McCormack, Moss.

Hall-Dubinsky-Perron
Foligno-Nuge-Stewart
Glenncross-Gordon-Moss
Gazdic-Hendricks-McCormack

Nurse-Bieksa
Ference-Boychuk
Cowen-Ekblad

Scrivens
Fasth

Not sure if all those deals would be doable, add where needed. We'd finally have a team that isn't a bunch of *******.
It's hard to believe glencross only played 26 games for the Oilers, he left such a lasting impression. I like the guy but the trade for Gagner is a joke.

And Bieksa, really? He's one of the biggest ass-clowns in the league. I like tough players on my team but no Cooke, Ruutu, Bieksa, Tootoo, Ott, Barnaby types should ever wear the Oilers jersey, that's a joke.

2 rookies as starters on the blueline, looks like something the Oilers would do but not me thanks. Seconded by the Scriv.

After Dreger's "comments" I expect Yakupov to go to the Leafs at the draft, along with Joensuu, for Gardiner/Franson, rights to Bolland and a pick.

Just saw what Dreger said about Yak last night.. what a joke of an insider. He doesn't know anything about us. "Toronto wouldn't do Yak for Reimer." ****

Such a dud.

Or, if you want an example similar to Nurse (one year of development post draft year), look no further than Anaheim. Lindholm is 1 year removed from his draft year and has played the 3rd most minutes of their D. They have 2 rookies on the back end and are 1st in the division.
Just because it worked once in the whole history of the nhl doesn't make it the benchmark for success, and both of those d-men played in Norfolk last year plus one of them is 22. They're not coming out of the chl at 18 and 19.

Once in the history of the NHL?

There's 7 defensemen who have done it from the 2012 draft alone.

Chicago and Los Angeles have both proved that you're not going anywhere if you don't have a Keith or Doughty on the back end.

Fans can pretend that everything is going to be fine, but until we get a top notch defenseman, this team is never ever going to be a contender.

No it's not better when this team isn't close to serious winning. The Oilers should've waited until the offseason to make the goaltending changes.

This is dumb. Who's to say Scrivens and Fasth are still available in the offseason? Then the Oilers could be stuck chasing UFA goalies, and the top ones probably don't want to come here.

No. It's not better to tank than to actually try and win. And like the other poster said, what if these goalies aren't available in the offseason? We need a winning mentality. Not another draft pick. I don't care who he is. If Ekblad is there when we pick at the end of the season, great. Until then, losing should not be acceptable.

They honestly should've started the "tank rebuild" right from the moment Smyth was traded to the Islanders.

Waiting and doing things like offer sheeting Penner and chasing Heatley and Hossa was always stupid.

That turned what should have been a 3-5 year rebuild into something that's now going to take like 10 years.

Once Pronger demanded that trade, we needed to just take our lumps.

I don't think any team would initiate a rebuild after a SCF appearance. Pronger was important, but the team still had Roloson, Hemsky, Horcoff, etc. and they all looked like awesome pieces.

Pretty clear that they probably would've been. There's not a big market for Goaltenders.

Fasth and scrivens were both playing very well and their price tags would have kept going up. We got them both at a bargain price for how well they are playing

MacTavish has brout in goaltending, Gordon, Hendricks and peron. We are going to keep lander, pitlick, marincin and klefbom.

Two of eberle, yak, Gagner, and our first round pick for 2 defencemen and we are probably in ok shape next year.

I'm glad that the team's finances are being hit. I think this affects the morale of the team. Colorado's financial stability was extremely shaky and then all of sudden they became good. It seems like players notice these factors and this gives them an extra push. The Leafs and Rangers suffered for decades because there was never a fan consequence for failure. It's time that the team realizes that there are real world consequences for this piss poor product.

Once Smyth was dealt they should have started the rebuild full stop then, but they started doing things like signing Souray and offer-sheeting Penner.

I guess EIG did not have the patience for a rebuild, but that decision cost us. We should have gone for Stamkos.

Barkov is 9th on his team in scoring..

Our players did not have the luxury of hiding behind lead by example vets in Boyes\Fleisch\Upshall and Campbell etc.. They had to lead and carry our veterans who were nothing more than anchors... Horc\Smyth\Belanger\Whitney etc

I wish that MacT would get some ****ing complimentary players for this core group so that those of you that think that they are all garbage will eat your words and realize how foolish you sounded trying to trade them for a song. If we can't land Ekblad or one of the top C's then draft Ritchie, he would completely change the dynamic of our top 6.

Their top scorer has what 33 points? Pretty hard to put up points with that type of support. Also most of those guys have played about 10 more games then Barkov. Wouldn't have been surprised to see him put up 40+ points this season as an 18 year old. Kid reminds me of Kopitar when he was younger.
