I understand the enthusiasm and I think he can be a good NHL player eventually. I can assure you that he will not be guaranteed an NHL roster spot especially in his first North American season. I'm not sure if a trade would be that helpful to him either. I'm not looking to put you down and I really like the player and hope that we can get him to come over next year.
I don't think it's a guaranteed NHL slot, but there should probably be a chance to get there right away next season. We have no idea what the roster will be next season, or if Adams will extend his UFAs, for example, or how many potential spots there are for prospects.

I know his team really wants to extend his contract, and they're a tough team when it comes to all of these issues.

Kaprizov didn't come to the NHL right away either.

If he has a big production year and his arrival is contingent on playing in the nhl, I wonder if he becomes a trade piece

With the lack of transfer agreement, they don’t lose his rights. They could use him in trade or just continue to wait on his arrival. If Poltapov is thinking about how guys like Panarin or Kaprizov took a while, it might still be a few more years out before he jumps.

I would also like to note that at the time when Panarin (it was a long time ago) and Kaprizov (a little later) left, it was easier to leave, now the situation in the world is a little different and there has already been a precedent (Fedotov).

That's why I hope he comes over and shoots his shot. If he signs a 3 or 4 year deal in the KHL, we may never see him in North America. I don't doubt Adams will offer him an opportunity.

No points yet today, though his line hooked up for CSKA first goal (Sorkin from Abramov) off a faceoff play that went to the net.

His PKing time has dropped off as CSKA is using his line in more offensive situations. He's still not getting any PP time.

Well that's not good.

It’s fine. There is no KHL transfer agreement so they maintain his rights as cowboy mentioned above. And the kid has said that he wants to make sure that he’s completely ready to jump right into the NHL. If that’s more on a Kaprizov timeline, so be it.

Honestly, with how rough of a time we’ve been having with guys who are relied on in big roles at a young age (Cozens, Levi, Quinn, etc) it should probably be a relief to all of us that a prospect is going to slow cook and develop a bit more before joining the club. I’m good with it, especially given all the Rochester depth.

Does the NHL have an agreement to honor the KHL contract or will Russia throw him in jail if he tries to leave in the next 2 years?

It’s all about the money, if Michkov can be bought out of his KHL deal anyone can for the right price.

They won't throw him in jail, but they might not be able to buy him out, although Buffalo is unlikely to do that anyway.

Not on a two year deal, like others have said the timeline makes total sense as he wouldn’t be on the Sabres within the next two years anyway. I’ll worry if he extends beyond his current deal…that’ll signal a lack of interest or ability to come over. Right now, he’s skating and playing well in the second best pro league on the planet, it’s all gravy.

Four games without a point, only one game with over 15 minutes of ice time in that streak. At least he's been a net 0 in terms of goal differential.
