I don't think the Avs would do much of anything.

Top tier goalies cost more than they are worth.

And Duchene will still be contributing to the team when the rest of the core is in their prime. Price would either be gone or be making us pay through the nose.

To get Price from the Habs would start with Varly (obvs) and go from there. But who is of the value that would be needed that makes sense and brings less to the team than upgrading Varly to Price?

Habs keep Price and DD.

Price is not a need for the Avs. At all. He's not even remotely close to being the missing piece for them.

This thread needs to die. If the Avs are going for a blockbuster trade, it'll be for a defenseman, not a goalie. Price is certainly worth a ton, but it's ridiculous to think the Avs would move what it would take to get him.

Avs do not need Price. Nor do they want Price.

Avs do not want to Trade Duchene or Zadorov (let alone both) just to upgrade a position they have no need to upgrade.

But, you're forgetting that the Avs have no interest in acquiring Price, so there is absolutely no chance we're going to pay the asking price. If you are dead set on trading Price to the Avs, I'd offer Blake Comeau, Fedor Tyutin and a conditional 3rd (turns into a 2nd if Price's playoff SV% this season is higher than his regular season SV%.)

Varlamov is a very good goalie. Why would they give up that much to upgrade?

Career SV % Price = 0.920
Career SV % Varlamov = 0.917

If you look at the last 3 seasons (since Price became a top goalie) :

SV % Price = 0.934
SV % Varlamov = 0.917

That's impressive but there is no guarantee that Price can maintain numbers like that. Knee injuries are really bad for goalies. I know, I am a goalie and I am going under surgery next monday

Anyway, any team would like to upgrade their goaltending but a goalie is never worth as much as people seem to think. In Avalanche's case, they already have a strong starter and a very good prospect (Pickard). Another team with weak goaltending could be tempted to pay more though...

More realistically? Price to IR or LTIR sooner rather than later in the future.
Avs to 6/7 in Central.

Price anywhere is silly. But to pick on Colorado because they once traded for a disgruntled Patrick Roy who is no longer in the Avs organization at all? Well thought out.
