He was at the top of the crease and there's no way he would have gotten there.

I beg to differ.

For what its worth, I am rooting for Sparks and I 100% wanted him to be the guy just because it makes more sense long term.

He just isn't taking advantage of it

I don't understand people saying this as an insult about our potential backup. Reimer on a ELC sounds pretty good.

Sure but McBackup is far better as a goalie and if Babs actually means his words in no way has Sparks earned it over Mack, especially seeing as Mac had as good of a SV% in the NHL as Sparks did in the AHL.

I’m certainly not basing my opinions solely on camp, but it is important.... Dermott being hurt also makes it more likely he goes back to the Marlies so that he can prepare for the NHL again...

So you are basing it on camp and what else?
As a 3rd pairing D last year (sheltered as pretty much all 3rd pairing D are) in his first 37 games he passed the eye test with flying colours, put up fantastic advanced stats, his pts production was on pace for about 30 pts over 82 games, and he played excellent D, on top of elevating the play and stats of everyone he played with.
Please explain what you are basing this off of other than preseason.

Edit: He is challenging it, because I know there is no video review in the preseason and I assume that included the coaches challenges.

I disagree that McBackup is better than Reimer, despite a 20ish game sample of solid play last year. If Sparks were indeed as good as Reimer, then that's a very easy decision.

The thing about Reimer was that he was effective most of the time, but he never made it look easy. He doesnt have fluid lateral motions and just never looks smooth. It just always make it look like him and Sparks are chasing the play, regardless if they are or arent
