It's close. Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Monahan, Slafkovsky, Newhook, Anderson, Dvorak, Gallagher, H.Pinard, Armia. It's between him and Pearson for the 12th forward. But I could see him playing C if they stick Newhook at wing once Dvorak is healthy
Hope not. Give the 1C, 2C and 3C roles to the three best Cs, which suggests Suzuki,, Dach and Newhook if we want a strong top 9. Dvorak or Evans can keep the crumbs of 4C and PK. Let's ice a strong-skating team for once and get other teams to adjust to what the Habs bring, rather than giving icetime to lesser players.

Does Jake Evans make this team if Dvorak is healthy?
Jake can be a thirteenth forward. I've liked him on the wing when he's played there but it really depend on what happens with Newhook. Eventually both those guys will be gone once we've attained a proper level of depth and talent for specific roles. My guess is he will end up playing with Pearson so much will depend on how they mesh. Keep in mind the easier upgrades will always be found for the bottom 6 not the top.

I agree. It feeds up a spot for H.Pinard in the top 9 on the wing. It's just that Dvorak, like him or not, is a 3C not a 4th liner. And he's a veteran presence which MSL might like to sheold the young kids. On the other hand, they could ice a good checking 4th line and give them decent minutes. Another possibility is putting Newhook next to Suzuki and Caufield. But I wanna see him paired with Anderson for now

The tricky part is finding one who can actually skate, rather than a boat anchor who tips the ice against his team during play.
I think Wilson can skate and hit and fight and score occasionally. But he is a mean Mofo and that's what Habs need more off. He is definitely more useful than Dvorak, Evans and Armia combined.

He is also an absolute rarety, and handsomely paid as a result. That said, he is getting long in the tooth, injured more and more, and may not be the deterrent that he was 2-3 years ago. He is a Cap through and through, and I doubt that Washington would ever trade him.

Yeah I don’t mean THE Tom Wilson. I mean like Tom Wilson. 2-3 of these guys would be nice.

I think Pearson is ahead of Armia, and maybe will jump ahead of Gallagher.

Based on how Newhook responded to playing C as an Av, not sure playing C is where he’d be at his best.

But what about the tank???
Maybe it's just me, but I wasn't that impressed with the way we played against the Senators’ "C" team. If they had scored on half of the multiple open net chances they had, we lose that game by 2 to 3 goals. I think the 'tank' whether intentional or not, is still in effect.

Here are my short takes on last night's game: Slafkovsky was a noticeable factor throughout most of the game, both offensively and physically; Monahan showed that he can still be an important contributing player in this league and will, if he stays healthy, garner us a high draft choice at the trade deadline; Suzuki and Caufield were in mid season form and will be the engine that drives this team's offence; while Dach played well, I still find his skating to be sluggish; Davidson showed the speed and power off the wing that allows one to project him as a future NHLer; Trudeau displayed good mobility and an offensive flair that should allow him to make this, or some other NHL team in the next two years; and Heineman showed his skating ability and a willingness to drive to the net that should allow him to carve out an NHL career.

I agree with the worries regarding being close to losing to an AHL team and especially being outshot by them. I would add that 1/6 on the PP does not show promise for this year.
Regarding players,
I think Suzuki Caufield Monahan were playing it easy in the 1st, invisible in the 2nd and woke up in the third. Not sure if Monahan would not be more useful to Dach than he is to them.
RHP was good on the forecheck but quite invisible otherwise. Slaf was quite active offensively and on the boards. Dach was also active but quite inefficient. I did not find the trio to have much Chemistry.
Andersson Heineman Mesar have shown nothing at all, it was the void, not worth of top 6 AHL.
Bourque is as expected from a career AHLer, Gignac was dynamic and as expected from a top 6 AHL guy. I like what I saw from Davidson seem like a good energy guy to have.
Guhle needs some reps after his injury and you can feel he is not 100% efficient. Savard solid as expected but inefficient in his offensive rushes.
Trudeau not bad but nothing flashy, good for the AHL this year. Kovacevic, nothing fantastic nothing bad, good depth. Norlinder shows smooth skating but decision making was questionable, not really efficient on PP QB. Keeper well ECHL guy.
Allen and Primeau : cover the damn post. Else they were ok.

He was impressive. Dach did everything right – he moved the play forward, controlled the puck very well when he had it, won almost every puck battle when he didn't, and generated multiple chances. Best forward on the team, IMO.

Slafkovsky had a good game overall and looked more confident carrying the puck, however he needs more work receiving the puck. He fumbled a few passes and missed a couple of juicy rebounds.

I'm not sure what you didn't like about Dach's skating. I don't remember him behind the play; in fact, he and Caufield pushed the play forward more than any forward and Dach was often the first forward back when the Sens gained possession. He's not the prettiest skater, but he gets where he needs to go.

A nod to Gignac, who was one of the best skaters out there and created some nice chances.
