I used to think this was sacrilege, but I can understand why someone would do it if they got a really hot slice right out of the oven. Especially with how I always burn the roof of my mouth while eating pizza, but I still won't eat it with a fork and a knife.

I haven't really seen it done here particularly, more than I have in some other regions. It's almost like a generational thing too. I feel this is more common with the age demographic that's about 10 years younger than me. I think I first saw it in Colorado and my step brother (who is the same age as me) told me people do it at his school.
