I was hoping Sheldon Keefe would bring similar sort of turnaround that Rick Tocchet did with Canucks. A proper system which allows the team to thrive but I’m ready to be hurt again

They didn’t win immediately with Tocchet did they? Didn’t it take some time?

They have one week to dig deep, lock in and focus up. Preseason doesn't dictate how the season will go, but they don't look good right now.

Keeping Siegenthaler was another Tom master class f*** up.
Nobody wants him at that salary and term.

The salary isn't terrible, but he's got 4 years left including this one.

I was saying for a while that one of Marino or Siegs wouldn't play here this year, and that I think the team would probably rather get out from under Siegs, but Marino had the more appealing deal.

I fully get why we ran it back with Lindy last year but it’s all just really unfortunate because it looks like Brunette was the absolute perfect coach for this team

I pretty much never cared for the preseason but after last year, I don’t care to the point I almost don’t even want them to do well in the preseason. I think I remember seeing some stat showing the teams who have great preseason go on to have mediocre regular seasons.

If I don’t give a shit about these meaningless games I certainly can’t expect the players to. their number one focus should be to get in game shape and not get hurt that’s it.

The very first goal he gave up on that PP he was practically on the goal line.

If I’m discouraged about anyone tonight, it’s him.
If we know anything it’s that Rogalski can fix any struggling goalie. Look what he did for Vanacek and Blackwood. Just ask @Bleedred he will tell you.

Marino was apparently traded for being a problem. he was one of the dickheads tom was talking about with the no dickheads comment. He apparently was coming to practice late.

Yup. They weren't good when he first took over, though they probably won more than they did early on that year, and THG constantly pointed out that this was by design, as they purposely seemed to not bring him in until the schedule got softer. Despite the fact that Boudreau was waiting to be HUNG for quite some time, and it even leaked that it wasn't going to happen until that time came.

But yeah, they didn't get good right away AND Tocchet's results before his one full season in Vancouver are ABYSMAL. His only playoff berth before last year was the phony play in round during the covid playoffs, where they knocked off the Nashville Hiney Heads, and pissed us all off because the pick for Hall wound up being lower. We did wind up drafting Mercer, so it could have been worse.

Whoever said Allen is too deep in his net is right.

He's basically looked like the way I'd expect Marty to look like if we let him play goalie tonight against a roster full of NHL players on both sides.

And I don't think a 52 year old Marty, who is wayyyyyy above his playing weight and a decade into retirement would look very good against current NHL or even AHL players.

And yes, the team has not been very good overall. The offense is non-existent. However, if Varlamov was playing as badly as Allen tonight, we might have 3 or 4 goals. Probably not 5.
