And LOL @ Heatley. What a plug.

Opinions on Nolan in this game?
He had that goal, but that was handed to him. O'Donnel mentioned him in a short list of solid players...
Am I the only one who though he looked like he was "only playing a preseason game" out there?

I suspect maybe you have a slight bias against Nolan if you're thinking that.

Neutralish?

He looked good at times, but like he was going light a little too often or maybe not ready at times? maybe just me.

I noticed tough guys like Beauchemin and Kesler would tuck their tails in when Nolan interjected during a few scrums.

He made a good play behind the net too, hung on, took his time, and brought the puck to the front of the net for a decent scoring chance.

Didn't notice Andreoff much aside from being on the wrong end of missed assignments. He's better suited as a winger and looked uncomfortable at center.

LOL sutters amazing !
@LAKings: "We get along good. He’s a good boy.” - Coach Sutter on Tyler Toffoli

Just back, it was nice to see some of the young guys get a game.

Ebert has NHL level offensive skills. I would say even above average. But wow does he let people get behind him a lot. He will either have to reel it in, or learn how to recover like Doughty/Martinez do. If he can do that and develop some defensive awareness, he has potential to put up some serious points in the NHL.

McNabb reminded me a lot of Muzzin at the beginning of last season. Really solid at times, then a bad pinch or poor read. He did look better as the game went on.

I thought Forbort looked good at times too. Ive never been as high on him as others, but he is finally exhibiting some potential.

Schultz, I thought, was outplayed a lot. Tonight he looked liked the odd man out.

Cracknell surprised me, he looked better than I thought he would.

This game reminded me of how the Kings are ridiculously structured and it looks weird and extremely noticable when players are out of position. It was easy to tell who the regulars were.

I was at the game. Nolan looked like he was working - his body not his mind. He made a number of plays that would probably work with regulars during the regular season, but the kids were out of place or moving the wrong way. He should've taken the time to look at the situation before trying to make a play. He wasn't terrible, just needed to be more aware of the game around him.

Just got home from the game

I need to go to sleep so I'll give out a few comments.

Schultz looked awful! I pray he gets claimed. He look like his he was in quick sand most of the night.
Picking up McNabb looks like mistake. He was burned many times. Not impressed... I don't see how he makes the team.
Nick Ebert was by far the best kid out there.
Clifford looked excellent and Nolan and King looked OKAY but not as good as Clifford.
Marty Jones made some fantastic saves.
Never heard of Raine before tonight but he was much better than McNabb and Schultz
Forbort wasn't any good either
Weal can stick handle and make plays.
Toffoli and Pearson were both exceptional

I wouldn't be throwing out McNabb and Schultz into the trash just yet. It was only one preseason game, but I agree totally with you, they both looked awful while Raines had a very good game.

It will be interesting to note if the coaching staff feels the same way about the players' respective camp work and upcoming preseason games, of course.

That's some bad photoshopping.

But he's a ****ing all-star!

He's saving his skillz for the regular season. ;)

All I did was capture the image below from the disturbing commercial. I don't have the imagination nor the patience to photoshop Doughty's likeness onto it.

This commercial is such a train wreck. I don't go to Del Taco anyway; however after watching this I will make a concerted effort to avoid the place altogether.

Eh, not like Anaheim's lineup was very experienced either.

Neither team really brought out the big guns which isn't surprising. These games are essentially "who goes where". Guys like Perry, Getzlaf, Kopitar, ect are already locked in place, and for players to get back in the groove. It's the guys like Brad Winchester, Christopher Wagner, and Andy Andreoff that are vying for a roster spot on the major leagues or will be sent to their respective feeder teams for more practice.

Notice a trend about those three? All stay at guys that looked like they had trouble handling the _ucks speed. I'm not worried about any of them as it was one game and those three were kind of depended on to be the anchors of the pairings they were on.

I was focused on McNabb, Forbort and Andreoff the 1.5 periods I watched.

McNabb -

slow reads, slow feet and as a result he was chasing more than dictating what was going to happen in front of him. His skating last night looked very choppy at times and with very little power.

I didn't see any big hits by him, hell even any good body contact for which he is known for. IMO, he played timid last night and was afraid of making a mistake.

He was playing very tight to the forward he was covering almost the entire time I watched. He was typically shoulder to shoulder on his coverage.

The end result was that he didn't make any glaring mistakes, but he also wasn't controlling pace and position the way I would think the staff wants him to.

Forbort -

much more fluid and agile skater than McNabb. he won't win any races or dance contests, but for a big man he has good footwork that allows him to get his big frame in position. compare him to Schultz and you will see what I mean.

I've watched many UND games over the years. The last two seasons, especially his last one he wasn't playing with that much separation. He seems to have gone back to playing guys with a bit more separation, which I think he does as he gets comfortable with different game speeds. Last night he was facing a line-up that was ~50% NHL vets (don't care if they are plugs or not, they are NHL vets) or greater. Regardless of ANH's big guns not playing that is a different tempo and pace than the WCHA and AHL.

His huge frame and reach allow him to play off guys and still reach them. As time goes by and he will tighten his defense separation. The tighter he gets the better he will be, but this seems to always be a work in progress with him.

Surveyed the ice well and made good reads and reactions with his D partner. Played a good low post game from dot to dot and into the corners. He never pushed his coverage, which meant there were no holes for ANH to take advantage of.

Andreoff -

I truly didn't notice him much out there. I though Weal at C had a better game. Andy's one time on camera was the blown coverage on ANH's first goal, when he didn't pick up his guy on the cycle.

I think the best forwards for LA were Clifford, Van der Gulik, Cracknell, Weal and Nolan. They were always around the puck and making something out of nothing. VDG was always doing something, the guy is a career AHL'er but he is making the most out of his opportunity. He should land in MAN.

TTT had the sweet pass for the assist, but was mainly invisible much of the game. I mention him because you could see the vast difference between him and the other players (both squads). When he stepped on the ice he could instantly take over on the ice.

Pearson on the other hand was quiet all night. I was hoping to see more of him and lead the way. I think that is the difference between Tanner and TTT. Tyler has the additional one-year of NHL experience. Frankly I thought Tanner looked lost out there without having Carter to play off of.

Jones looked good in goal. In games like this where there are a lot of defensive breakdowns. As a result with keepers you get to see how sound they are positionally. They get more rubber shot at them from weird angles, due to lapses of inexperienced players. Jones played strong and structured in net. Remained calm and as a result calmed the LA defensive zone down.

Noticed Raine quite a bit, in a positive way. Thought he had a solid game. Good for the kid, hope he continues to impress. Kid is going to earn a contract.
Weal didn't look as small as advertised, thought he played a better game than AA. Seemed AA struggled at times to keep up with the play around him. Maybe he's more suited for wing at this time.
Ebert can skate, now they need him to play some defense. Great skater, but a work in progress at D.
Overall, thought it was a good effort by the kids. Good to see them get some preseason games in.

Gotta disagree with forbort. His skating was terrible and slow, even worse than mcnabb. Reads weren't great either. I think mcnabb was the better player in this game.

Also mcnabb did at least get 1 solid hit and was inches away from laying out silvs. Both of them really didn't have impressive games . It going to take both of them awhile but the potential is there.

Agree with Pearson and Andy Andy had a terrible game.

As for cracknell, he looked good but he is still miles behind Lewis on both sides of the puck (IMO )

Ducks man... Ducks... where do you start....

Gibson... burned by Nolan and King 2X (shootout) Not NHL ready...

Heatley.... What happened to this guy... he couldn't even show up against a team with Schultz/Martinez as a top pairing?

Kesler... even worse then Heatley considering what the Ducks gave up for him.... Sure he did alright... but Heatley/Kesler should have dominated that line up....

I loved every time the Ducks players started getting in someones face then Nolan/Clifford/Andy... comes over and they don't have anything else they want to say...

King... Is he 2 for 2 in his last to shootouts? Both against the Ducks?
